I asked because there might be a better, more suitable way to achieve something like an animated title screen or a cut scene, if that is what you had in mind, since you can not place avi files on the map (as to my knowledge), but you don't need to either to gain that effect.

Instead of trying to place an .avi on the map, why not link to the file in the browser and have a screen pop up when some sort of condition has been fulfilled. I find that may be more useful.

Actually, there is an even more "natural" method available with the Interface.
You could have a browser in a pane to share the same child with the map pane, to trigger between the both, which should look rather "normal game like" to the player, meaning, like non BYOND games.
