That's weird, I'm EST and it's displaying correctly for me.

I agree. Who are the judges? If we have all the projects simply zipped up and sent to the judges by name by the receiving party, we could eliminate any partiality.

I'm going with Baird is just too chicken to make a twerking game. Obviously I'm right. #EndGame.

On my computer it's already jam time.

It would be interesting to see how/who the public would vote on the projects (with different categories such as design, playability, etc.)

Ofc it will not be counted but it would be interesting to see the stats.
When a developer votes aren't they making giving themselves worse odds of winning?
True, true... hm, I wonder how the trend would be from the choices between the public and the developers...

One issue about getting votes from the public would be an easy abuse of multiple voting for particular projects whereas the developer voting is you know who are voting and it cannot be as easily abused.
I suppose that's true. I just wonder who's even planning on voting.
I want to challenge myself, I'm in.
I've got so much going on this weekend it's been hard to sleep. First there's this. Then I've got a big important party tomorrow, the beta for Destiny is running, Path of Exile is undergoing it's special one month league, and in D&D (held Fridays) there's major changes happening to my character.

I'm essentially working on 5 "Builds" at once. The game jam project, my personal appearance (hair cut, shave, clothing, etc), my Destiny character, my PoE character, and my D&D character, which, might even turn into two characters @__@

This week's going to be interesting.

I'll join this time, sounds like fun! Should be a nice break from my usual projects.

Yeah my bad I had a failure calculation.
Due to my failure I took the liberty of modifying the script you're using for the countdown Oasis.

Though you'd need to change the HTML target to the UTC equivalent since I didn't use timezone offsets.
TargetDate = "7/19/2014 5:00 AM";
How r u gunna prevent people from using premade stuff lol
To alleviate what Birdo is complaining about, how about we just remove first, second and third place altogether and deem everyone a winner? All participants will get $2. Everyone gets a medal and everyone is a champion.

I've developed spy drones for Oasis. I will dispatch one drone to the house of every participant, which will monitor what they're doing on the computer.

If someone is cheating, they will be zapped with a non-lethal volt of electricity. If they cheat 3 times they will be zapped with a lethal volt of electricity and possibly die.

I know that may seem harsh but we gotta enforce these rules somehow.
Woah, all kinds of things to respond to haha!

First off I'd like to thank DarkCampainger for his generous donation! Thanks for supporting the contest! :)

Then I'd like to welcome Neo Berserker and DarkCampainger to the contest, I'm excited to see what both of you end up creating.

Having a public vote alongside the official vote could be very interesting, perhaps for fun I'll do that? It won't have any bearing towards who gets a prize, however.

And finally, I apologize for the timer, I didn't actually write the script so I wasn't aware of that bug. Please go off of the time posted on this thread indicating that the contest will start in about 12 hours and 40 minutes.

Because the time is getting so near, I'll also take the time to say that the themes will be posted both in the top of the thread, in a reply to the thread when I officially kick off the contest tonight, and on the website. And an additional reminder that before the contest completes 48 hours later you must submit a .zip of your game in its completion to me either via email or over Skype ([email protected]/gary.bethlehem respectively) Those addresses are also available on the website under "Contact".

Good luck to all! :)
Let's all take the time to remember these wonderful times.

Whats wrong with 2011 and 2012?
I just realized the duration is a single day and not an entire week...

My eyes suck.

What's worse is my Saturday is pretty busy... -sigh-
I just donated, wish I could participate myself but I don't have the time so I figured I could in that way. Good luck to all the developers/teams, this is going to be an exciting BYOND Game Jam!

This is a similar format to game jams hosted by itch.io
Every submitter can vote for and rank as many games as they want. A "vote" for an entry is pretty much just rating the entry 1 stars to 5 stars across several categories, like aesthetics or polish or theme. Only submitters can vote/rank entries that are not their own.
Itch.io employed some system that rated which games were most deserving of votes, based on how many votes their submitter gave vs how many votes they had received, and sorted the game list on the voting page accordingly.
So if you voted more, your game would be promoted on the voting page, and your entry is more likely to get page views and votes. More votes on your entry doesn't necessarily mean a higher rank in the competition though.
