I know I'm not the only one with the opinion that people who program are "programmers" not "coders" or whatever the kids are calling themselves these days. I understand that the title doesn't define your level of skill, but still, I feel it's so much more professional.
Admittedly, I think a lot of people used to call themselves coders on here, but for the sake of my ability to take someone seriously, I much prefer programmer.
Just thought I'd get that little quirk off of my chest before it exploded into a fit of pedantic trolling.
Does anyone know how that title got started and why it's stayed specifically labelled to the newer programmers within the community?

Hey man, coding is a good job!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_coder Medical coders seem to be the only people outside of BYOND who really tend to go by "coder" the most :P |

I agree that programmer is more professional. I tend to shy from people who call themselves "coders" for some reason.
Pretty sure it got started the same way "iconner" and "huber" and "gfxer" got started. People doing something they have no idea about. Pretty sure it labelled to the newer programmers because thats why they in turn call themselves because they don't know the proper term so to speak.
