This feature has already been implemented, or is already achievable with existing methods.
Wondering if it would be difficult to add a variable that would adjust the speed in which missile is used.
If you use a type path to set your missile's properties, you can set the type's glide_size variable to control the speed.

Any chance you can explain that a bit more? I've seen no examples of that in the dm reference.
