I was just wondering about that. What if you make a game like dragon warrior or final fantasy or anything like that and take pieces from those games to help create your own (like dragon warrior online or something)? How does pulling in byondimes work for something like that? Is it illegal?

You're allowed to accept donations for it, I'd assume, since you can't stop people from giving you money if they want to give it. But it is illegal to be deliberately charging for something that is based on somebody else's copyrighted material.

If you have permission to do so from the copyright holder, then yes you can charge for the game. Those copyright laws only apply to charges that aren't approved by the copyright holder (or something to that effect).
