I don't know if i'm saying this right, but how do i know what my server name is? (i.e. foo.bar.edu)

Most people won't have a domain name, they'll have an IP address.

To obtain your IP address, go to Start|Run and type in C:\Windows\winipcfg.exe. Then, the second grayed field should tell you your IP address.
