I don't know if it is just me but all the new features BYOND is getting has only been available for BYOND members. Non-members haven't got anything since the release of BYOND members really.

I didn't meant as for program-wise. It'd be ridiculous if this was true. Anyways, what I meant is website-wise. Since the release of BYOND Members, members have been gaining special benefits while non-members haven't received anything addition to their current status and benefits.

Well, that's usually how it works. The website doesn't need that much more for non-members right away, but we have to keep the members happy and paying to keep the system working.

Nadrew is right. This is the way it should be. BYOND wants to drive membership. They are trying to give paying members more features and bring new members in. What good would it do them if they gave all the good features to everyone. I wouldn't have a reason to pay for my membership then. I think the 4 memberships I have purchased over the last year have been well worth it(Only two of those where for my keys).

BYOND is keeping it's members happy, which makes them more willing to renew their membership, and it encourages new members.

Before memberships I was very happy with what BYOND already provided and didn't expect anything more. Non-Members have a right to everything that is needed to create and maintain a game. Which includes full access to the forums, online documentation, and all other BYOND created developer resources. So what are you expecting BYOND to give its non-Members?

It would be nice if they could join guilds. Maybe a max of one or two?

Uhm, those features are just extra things which you do not need when building your own net dream, or playing one. BYOND is made as a gaming engine, and not for all sorts of blogs, filehosting and whatnot. Consider those features as extra, so the staff will have the money to pay the bandwith off.

O-matic
The only problem I see with this is that BYOND is so addicting that you're literally forced to become a BYOND Member, as the walls can be caved into you.

That's better than the previous nobody getting anything new and special website-wise. :P
Except no holiday graphics, I suppose, which is kind of disappointing. :(

Nonsense, I've been trapped here for five years and I still refuse to become a member!

It's called a business plan. It involves making enough money to cover one's costs.

If you don't like it, join the Communist Party.

this is the whole point of getting a BYOND membership. it wouldn't *be* a membership if everyone got the perks, now would it?
