OKYO (Reuters) - Imagine watching a soccer game on a television that not only shows the players in three dimensions but also lets you experience the smells of the stadium and maybe even pat a goal scorer on the back.

...I would hate to see a locker room interview after a football game. EWWW that would stink!

Smellovision like the telescope in Futurama :P

Goodthing I lost my sense of smell >.>

Though... I wonder if we can move around the video as well as rotate it (Angles it just right so during half-time at an American football game pointing inside the women's washroom when the door happens... with a few mirrors helping the reflection of the image to reach the camara... hehehe)

well...befor u get into that, id think that in order to do that, theyd need panaramic cameras set at all corners of the stadium, and also maybe some on top..

They said "3D" though...
Ive heard of it, I hear that if it works, it can give blind p[eople the ability to see, and deaf people the ability to hear (not permenantly, but while they are using the thing)

That sounds very far-fetched. To do it you'd have to bypass the eyes and ears and pipe information straight into the brain. I'm not saying it's necessarily impossible, but we're definitely not there yet.

2020...

I don't see it happening in 15 years either. Fifty years, maybe. But not fifteen.

Well, if you think about it, we already created the TV that can run 2 different channels on the same TV, and the person on the Left or Right will see a different channel. Virtual reality is somewhat been used in games, etc, even if it is at a low stage.

With the way technology advanced, it doesn't just slowly grow, ever time someone does something new, everyone else can learn and grow off of it.

i remember reading somewhere about sony(i think its sony) patenting research on pumping sensory information into peoples brains

Actualy, they have been able to play with peoples brains to make them see what they want for a while (No, I am not talking about mind control or anything). I watched something about it on the Discovery channel a while back. Basicly, they took a blind man, and attached some things to his brain, they where able to send very basic images to his brain, and his brain would understand it. He was blind from birth, so he was able to discribe 2 dots (I said basic) apearing before him. The footage was from the late '80s to early '90s.

I can't remember many details of it, it has been probably about 4 years sence I saw that show.
Man, if they were to use their minds to actualy solve real problems in the world i'd say it would be a better place. Of course, instead they decide to spend it on stuff like this. Sounds cool, but I think there are better/other priorities than this.

What does the world need? I bet if you were sitting in a room with three dimensional televison you wouldn't be complaining. In my opinion the farther people advance with technology... the better it is.

How about a cheap, effective HIV vaccine, and a delivery system to distribute it to everyone in the world (particularly places like Africa)? Maybe a solution to world poverty?

Or a time machine. A time machine would be cool.
In response to Crispy
A time machine is a far more worthy invention than an HIV vaccine! You could save billions of lives...

*edit*
Also, you could kill billions too. But yeah.
