I am ashamed to do this; to use my very first post as a BYOND Member to write this. This is utterly ridiculous. Today, September 11, has marked a new low for the BYOND Member Community, and that's saying something.

I'm sure many many of you don't have any connections with September 11, in fact, you probably just watched it on TV. It would be stupid for me to try to say that I knew someone in the Towers, but I didn't. Not a single soul in the Towers, Pentagon, or in any of the planes that I knew. But I still care. Why? Because I am a human being. I may have never know those people, but I am still saddened by the fact that they had to die. I understand that all people must die, and when it is my time, I will accept it completely. However, they did not die of natural causes, they died because they were killed. They were stripped of their goodbyes and I love yous. Sure, they could have called, but their lives ended pre-maturely because someone else decided on it.

Now the point of the above paragraph is just to ask those who are Anti-9/11 Remembrance to take a second and put themselves in the shoes of someone who had lost a loved one on that day. And just see if you feel just a little bit sad, just a little. I don't ask that you completely change your ways, but just that you would understand just why someone would remember. (Yes, I understand AIDS is a big issue, but three thousand people is still three thousand people.)

For those who are posting about 9/11 as the tragedy that it is, please understand that those other people, who have different opinions, do have a point. Although 9/11 was a very difficult day for Americans(at least most of us), it should not by any means consume our lives. Moving on is part of the grieving process, and you shouldn't be angry at anyone who has. People die each and everyday, if we mourned for everyone that should be mourned, we wouldn't have time for anything else.

Not everyone is an American, not everyone knows the pain that 9/11 brought us. But don't make it seem as if it was worse than it really was. The world has many issues, only one of which is terrorism. Patriotism is nice, but ignorance isn't.

This last part goes directly to Jaredoggy, and his enemies.

Jaredoggy, I think you fail to realize that by posting posts such as "To the BYOND Staff" will only incite more of their behavior. Sure, you have the right of posting it. You paid for Membership, by all means use it. But you're doing the exact same thing you rally against. You are posting something that should have no merit, and you're just asking for attention. Because that's what you sought for isn't it? Attention to the "crime" of BYOND Members, right? Sure, some of their posts are stupid. But they have every right to post them as you do. Is the system flawed? Yes. Should it be changed? Probably. Is it for you to decide? No. Can you keep complaining? Go ahead, but just be aware that by complaining you're just going to make it worse.

To Xeal, Ol' Yeller, & co. (specifically those two named). You know I love you guys right? You know I side with you on most arguments right? You know that I think that you are Gods among insects right? But you have to admit, it's a very touchy subject. I'm sure there are people here who have lost loved ones to the attacks, or at least someone who reads this drivel. You should really have some more tack in choosing your jokes, or at least expect a backlash. The Osama Bin Laden Jenga joke was pretty clever, but it also was very crude. So just be forewarned, some of your antics aren't as funny as you think they are.

I'm not even going to go into Kaybiss's post.

The point of this whole thing is that although you may not agree with someone else's ideals, it's theirs to have. You can try to influence them and convince them, but you shouldn't get personal. I mean, three thousand people died on this day five years ago. A few people wanted to remember them on BYOND, and they get ridiculed for it? I don't understand that.

Summary: Different people have different opinions. Some of them may be faulty in your mind, but try to understand and accept them.

lol. BYONDrama. >:(
holy shit look at all those words
LOL TETRIS TOWARSSS

/b/ FTW
<3 Eric. I love you.
"I'm sure many many of you don't have any connections with September 11, in fact, you probably just watched it on TV."

I HAVE IT ON DVD :D
too long; didn't read
Instead of caring for things in the past, we must lol.
I have nothing good or bad to say about this really. Sure they were human beings that died but what human being doesn't die or get murdered? This is just a black day for America. And when I say black I'm not referring to the color or the race in which the term belongs to. I use it as an adjective to describe the sadness and/or ignorance of it. In the many years to come this day will just be another memorial day. Its sad but true.

9/11 victims R.I.P. and I wish well to the family's victims.
I completely agree with everything stated in this post. The recent trolling is ridiculous and the people who do so should be ashamed of themselves. There is satire and then there's just plain wrong, and just about every single one of them crossed that line repeatedly. We have a name for these sorts of people: we call them "comment trolls". Tragedy isn't funny... unless it's Macbeth, which isn't even supposed to be funny. =P

I also wholeheartedly agree with your laissez-faire, live-and-let-live policy, however. The Front Page belongs to BYOND -- that means that BYOND has sole discretion over what they would like people to see there, including the discretion not to police the posts. The actual blogs themselves belong to the actual bloggers, and the actual bloggers may do anything and everything they wish (short of pornography or condoning illegal acts); certain people complaining about a system of personal expression when people use that system for personal expression (horror of horrors!) just smacks of being silly in my eyes. When I pointed it out, a certain someone deleted my post, which is more than enough to say that it struck a nerve. ;-)

In summary, for the people who are too busy trolling to actually read anything: BYOND allows you freedom of expression. But that doesn't include the front page. Spamming violates the Members TOS, you know.
yeah they can basically ban us whenever they want but i guess we haven't gone far enough yet

Frankly I think that he was just tired of people posting the same old comments looking for a pointless debate on his blog. Especialy one laced with an "I'm better than you" attitude.
haha yeah i posted "sup lurch" and a link to his picture and he locked me out

man if i looked like that i'd be all "you rang???" every 5 seconds of my life

Does that mean he banned you too??
You heard it here first people:

SilkWizard thinks Spuzzum carries a "I'm better than you attitude".
this is pretty funny but we'll eventually get bored and give up for a little while

then come back later and keep doing it out of boredom, repeating the cycle unless we get banned or everyone ignores us
Well, Silk is entitled to whatever opinion he likes. Doesn't necessarily mean it's true.
Those last words made me laugh so hard I fell off my seat (TLWMMLSHIFOMS)
In fairness, Spuzzum is better than most of you.
Well said, EXGuo. I'm glad your first post was like this rather than like some other posts lately.
Maybe they should replace the recent-blogs list with information about BYOND Membership. Then no one would care what people wrote in their blogs unless they were blogs that they were intereted in.

However, I must agree on one point that was mentioned here: "too long; didn't read." But then I systematically avoid all comments about real-world happenings anyway, including 9/11.
