Actually, after my father spent 20 minutes looking for Internet Explorer while trying out the Windows 10 tech preview and missing the memo that Project Spartan was the new IE, I can safely claim that the name change to Edge was actually a well made choice on Microsoft's end, if only for the purpose of keeping the familiar "e" desktop icon, saving the aged 50+ from the unneeded anxiety of rediscovering how to access the Internet.

A lot of older software needs IE, like BYOND so they had to keep it..

It's using less memory than Windows 8.1 did for me, but Windows 7 was better than both. However, I am very much enjoying it so far, everything is smooth, responsive. A few hiccups here and there but nothing crazy.

I dislike the new three-finger touchpad gestures, I had some custom ones setup in Windows 8 like three-finger swipe left to do a browser-back, right for forward, etc...

But, I imagine before long there'll be a utility to override that stuff, even if I am already beginning to enjoy the touchpad controls for switching between things :)

I had Classic Shell from hour one with Windows 8.1, I anticipated that nonsense.

If I recall correctly they did something else regarding browsers in the past as well to encourage people to use IE or something. I think they made Bing not work on Firefox and Chrome or something to that effect, can't remember exactly. People inevitably found a workaround though. We always do.

What is limited though is the search engine that Cortana uses. She uses Bing and you can't change that, but there apparently is already a Chrome extension to redirect the search to Google.

Basically, Win10 is the exact opposite of a fully featured operating system that allows you to use the PC as you want. It is the first OS where microsoft wants to force you to use the OS how they want (not even mentioning instead of blocking all of the tracking/spying/etc they just built it right into the OS!).

They want to always know your real name and want to utilize anything you say and do against you. Basically, it is the exact opposite of what everyone was taught in the 90's (Don't put personal info online) except as an Operating System! It is disgustingly scary how far microsoft went to cater to intelligence agencies (automatic backdoors, password backups, encryption key backups that they all have access to) and corporations. I probably won't ever install Win10; That is just how bad it is.

People said Microsoft couldn't do worse than Vista and I suppose they took it as a challenge! :)

TL;DR~ Win10 is a Facebook OS.

Did you read the link? The OS will literally use everything you do on it. It doesn't matter whether you use your personal info because they will be collecting all of the data you produce. I was kind of excited for Win10 because it was claimed to be a free upgrade, but it is just more of the same from microsoft. It isn't free and it won't battle piracy because pirates can't use it!

See that last part? The "As necessary" is a form of legal mumbo-jumbo that is so vague it gives them broad capability. They've built the OS around collecting your data to utilize its features and thus it will always be considered "necessary". With Win10, you can no longer anonymously use your computer and I think that was microsoft's objective all along.

I'm pretty sure thats what every site and company does Its either dont care or go offline completely like Walt when he went into hiding.

Signing up to a site, applying for a phone plan Hell getting a Safeway card ur personal information will always be in another persons hand... For me I personally just dont give a Damn.

You are completely missing my point. People use computers for more than just social networking and talking with friends/family. People use it for important business and secrets can be revealed. Notice how all those who are being targeted for collections don't include the government and others who want to collect the data, yet they still target sensitive institutions. It isn't about me or my personal information, it is much bigger than that. You may not care, but others do and you can't expect them to be like you.
I sign plenty of petitions online so I am not too concerned with my name either but that doesn't mean I want my operating system to function like a social networking offbranch.

If they did anything bad, they would end up losing a large portion of their userbase to iOS/Linux - effectively sabotaging themselves in the "OS war". I don't think they want that.

You guys are kidding yourselves. All of these entities work in cahoots with the corporations and the system. Facebook is essentially a government entity now and their only intent is to harvest as much information as they can in any way possible. I am not trying to convince you not to use the OS, I am merely pointing out what it is. :)

We have rights and even if you don't care about them, others do care about upholding them. Thanks.

With something as important as my daily computing, which is basically my life, I do not trust Microsoft or any other corporation for that matter. They must earn such a right and so far they have only done wrong in that facet.
