Well the other day I started messing with one of my old computers (MS-DOS only) and found Qbasic (probably the easiest language around), and I started messing with it, and within 2 days, I had my own personal operating system created, and it runs on my machine from bootup now, it has all the basic functions such as: Creating new files, opening/editing existing files, file manager program, task bar (with a startmenu-type thing), and I feel proud of myself because I've only been messing with the language for 2 days total.
Feel proud. It's a good project, especially in that small amount of time.

However, it sounds like more of an editor as opposed to what "operating system" tends to refer to. Are you doing things like maintaining memory and drivers?

It has the options, but they're kinda buggy (and slow), Qbasic is the easiest thing for doing system stuff. But it's more of an operating system than anything else on that computer.
