I wasn't talking about the automated message, I was talking about the actual system where a moderator could select 'warning' from the ban interface, the user would get a popup with the message when they visited the forum next.

I was the person who had the automated messages done away with, I definitely don't want THOSE back.

By warning system I meant just allowing moderators to flag a post with a message, showing a notification at the top of all BYOND pages when the user is logged in with the reason and the post associated with it; no identifying of moderators. (eg, if I would read, like what nadrew said.)

We did have this at one time. Yeah, dunno why warnings went out of style because they didn't identify who did them. Those were pretty direct to the point.
The forum software needs some love, it hasn't really been touched since Tom left.

Bump. This is still a problem. Two people, both respected members of the community who should have known better, one of them a mod, did not read the discussion and commented an off-topic reply.

On that note, off-topic replies are not actually against the rule. Another thing that needs to be resolved.
