Implementing this feature is not possible now or in the foreseeable future
I'd like to be able to set the frame I want the ref's icon to be at on animate, the same as it's done with the icon_state:

animate(ref, icon_state="bla", frame=2)


would save massive work for me.

That's not really how animated icons work. There's nothing about this that couldn't be done via a different icon state.
