This is a problem that has been going on for a while in the SS13 public server listing.

There are quite a lot of servers with obscene content, publicly available on the hub, and as someone with multiple underage relatives playing on BYOND it seems like that could be a point of improvement.

There is Skyrat, there is Citadel, there is The Fluffy Frontier 18+, Desert Rose 2, Hyper Station, Vesta of Orion, another citadel server, Sojourn 13, PampStation 13, Nostration 13. 32 servers with players on them in the Space Station 13 hub at the moment, and ten of them are 18+.

What I am suggesting is a blanket rule of hiding NSFW/servers or games with obscene, sexual content i.e. Erotic Role-Playing from the hub.

Lummox already said multiple times that he doesn't moderate in-game content and if they're not showing anything ON the hub, there is no problem.
This isn't the first time that I've seen this brought up, so I'll do my best to address it here so that, possibly in the future, I can point here to have a moderately comprehensive response.

This is a problem you would need to bring up to SS13 administrators/hub helpers/the hub owner. BYOND's moderation extends only to the public-facing website.

BYOND will moderate...

- Content that breaks the CONDUCT portion of the Terms of Service on the website itself.

It's important to mention here that, from the TOS, this encompasses only "User content uploaded to or displayed on the website." Also explicitly stated is "BYOND is not liable for any content provided by its users," which is to say, creations of BYOND are not within BYOND Staff's moderation scope.

- Copyright infringing content, as described in the COPYRIGHT portion of the Terms of Service.

And that's... Pretty much it. The scope of the problem you describe is out of BYOND's hands as the content displayed on the hub page (including all of the world statuses for each SS13 server) does not break any of the content moderation policies.

I attempted to connect to a few of the linked Discord servers on the hub to see if there even happened to be public-facing 18+ content immediately visible, and there was not, so the Discord servers appear to be displaying their content responsibly. While I did not attempt to connect to the game, even if I did and saw (or, I guess, read) something explicit, BYOND is not liable for any of the content that's created by its users. This is an issue that specifically concerns SS13's presentation, and in no way can BYOND interfere.

Your best bet is to reach out to SS13's staff and stake your claim for why these should be hidden. A more amenable solution might be to ask the owners/administrators of the 18+ games to feature more content warnings when users connect. But, like I said, I did not attempt to connect to the games myself, so I'm not as knowledgeable about the perceived problem as you are.

Even with an explicit content warning i.e. "This server is aimed at a mature audience, do not play if you are under the age of majority.", you cannot trust children to honestly deny themselves access to a game. It' s just not realistic.

Having a third of all populated servers contain a sexual element is not something to be proud of, even for BYOND itself. A lot of children play SS13, and it would, in my opinion, be much better to avoid the whole debacle and simply have all servers of that kind cater to their own community, off the Hub.

The Discord servers might not contain NSFW imagery at a glance, but all you have to do is go in-game in one of the mentioned servers and see for yourself.

Yes, that seems right, although I wouldn't see any server owners taking action...

Lets remove all porn sites off of the internet then. Children might visit them. Byond isn't hosting any of the discussed material.

Nobody said that. BYOND is a video game platform -> children love video games, you get the gist. And there are also quite a few less morally upstanding characters on that kind of servers, people any good parent would rather not interact with their children. Catering to children in the same place where you cater to erotic roleplaying aficionados is NOT a good combination.
Remove Lifeweb, It has ERP as well

It's the responsability of the parent to monitor what their children are doing, not of byond.
I've been contacted about adult-content SS13 servers before. If they have a warning before someone gets into the server proper, or better yet a warning displayed on the hub, and no explicit material on the hub, they've done right by BYOND's terms of service.

If any content on the server is illegal, that's on the host. If players are doing something illegal, that's on them. If minors are joining such a server, they and their parents are responsible.

Also, you should know most 18+ SS13 servers are very strict about this, and if they suspect someone is underage they'll kick them out and let other servers know.

So what is it you're really looking for? (This is a rhetorical question.) They're doing everything appropriate in terms of restricting access to their content from people who shouldn't participate. They're acting responsibly. If some few are acting less responsibly than others, that's entirely their own concern and risk—but they've been obeying BYOND's terms of service which means BYOND is not involved.
I am positive this has been brought up before the response has been the same. Are there just pearl clutching members of the community? Haha.
I shit you not I did not expect Lummox to say "They'll kick them if they're underage.", have you not heard of all the pedophile drama in SS13? The dev/staff teams of the +18 servers have all had pedophiles groom kids, and often it was with the whole team knowing but keeping their mouths shut, because it's how it goes most of the time.
I would be more worried about children's safety than trying to lawyer around with the ToS saying "but actually, they've broken no rules!".

There's sexual content and those servers have proven themselves over and over to be sexually interested in children, with all servers having one OR MORE members of staff/dev teams prey on kids.

Why haven't you called the cops or the feds yet then? ffs

That's not what I've heard at all. I'm aware some servers had devs or admins who had issues, and by and large those people were forced out or left. Are there others just as bad who replaced them? Maybe, maybe not. I know this sort of thing is an ongoing source of problems but that's also kinda common in all online communities. Or perhaps, all communities period.

Also to my knowledge many of the devs/admins who were part of that weren't involved with 18+ servers at all. The most high-profile one I'm aware of was CM. But, granted, I only find out about these things after the fact and third- or fourth-hand.

I hate the predation of minors as much as the next person, but there are many, many good reasons why my reach extends only as far as the content of the site and of the hub page itself, and not into the content of servers. BYOND has zero involvement in what goes on within any servers and that's never going to change. It's pretty pointless to resurrect this thread months after the fact just to bemoan that.

All servers? Slow your roll, dude; that's pretty hyperbolic.

What you're describing hasn't been my experience at all from interacting with the SS13 community, who are positively rabid about coming down hard on exploitation. They are somewhat more split on their tolerance level for NSFW servers in general, however.

Anyway your concern, though commendable, brings nothing new to the conversation.
In every server I've been in there's always been at least one case. Be it CM, Paradise, Citadel, Yog, many Fallout13 servers or more notorious Lifeweb/Farweb, having images of players stating they're underage after/while engaging in +18 game content, like posting a 4-line paragraph about how they introduce a dick in the other's cunt. Just cut those servers off, seeing kids in a +18 server is cringe, them existing is already, but kids being in it /while admins know it/ is even more.

"Yeah, the fuzz? Minors saying "me introduces cock in ur vagene" in an online game" would most likely be misuse of their services for something happening to people in another country.

LMAOOO. Do you see how ridiculous what you're saying is?
I know you're salty because you've been banned, just join another server weirdo

I still think you're exaggerating the scope of the problem to the point of absurdity, but that changes nothing regarding BYOND's lack of a role in any of it. If you understand the reasons we don't get involved in what happens within servers, and you're just venting, I can respect that—although there was no need to dredge up a thread two months after the fact for it. If you can't see the logic of it, either you haven't tried or choose not to, and either way I can't help you.
At the end of the day, I kind of find it creepy and weird that anyone would be so familiar with 18+ autism erp simulator communities that they would be fixated on some misbegotten campaign to evangelize people with the number of teenagers in these communities, but care so little that they wouldn't call the people involved to carpet with hard evidence to back them up in the first place. Like, yeah, it's shit that there are pedophiles in these communities, you aren't wrong, but like... Don't be part of it, collect actual evidence, and drop the bombshell hard and fast if you are gonna do it at all. Pussy footing around with vague, generalized incoherent moral browbeating and distributing the guilt to anyone who disagrees with your approach is hurting your credibility and undermining your supposed purpose.

If you have evidence real grooming is going on, and specific people are looking the other way, or participating in it, don't dither. Drop it hot and steaming and raw, unfiltered, and let people work out who needs to do what for themselves.
