How do I make one like say i want to make a window pop up thats shape of a octagon when i click on a button or verb how do i make it show up without the pesky background on the window showing up as the ugly box

Set the window's transparent color to black for example. Now give it a black background with a red octagon in the centre. Remove all title bars, status bars, resizing etc and you should have it.
