Yes, BYOND is safe to download.

If you get any warning from your antivirus it's a false positive. The software is perfectly safe.

The download is the safest part of BYOND. It's essentially just a game engine with some tools for connecting with other peoples' games.

Other peoples' games can't download anything to your system you don't consent to download.

The least 'safe' part of BYOND is just the fact that other people use the website, play the games, and sometimes aren't the nicest. Basically like the rest of the web.
