Sometimes BYOND will crash or fail to start up if the resource cache is corrupted. This can also happen if the configuration files are damaged. If either of these are the case, the following steps may remedy the issue:

Delete the cache folder:
  1. Close BYOND if it's running
  2. Find the BYOND data folder. (Located in "My Documents". C:/Documents and Settings/YOURNAME/My Documents/BYOND
    No Folder?
    1. Open your pager
    2. Click on the File menu
    3. Click on the "Preferences..." option
    4. Click on the "Advanced" tab
    5. Check the value of the "User Directory" and navigate to that folder.
  3. Delete the folder called "cache".
  4. Start BYOND again.

If the problem still occurs, instead of deleting the "cache" folder, rename the "cfg" folder to "cfg_old". This clears your configuration files.

Temporarily remove the BYOND configuration files:
  1. Close BYOND if it's running
  2. Find the BYOND data folder. (Located in "My Documents". C:/Documents and Settings/YOURNAME/My Documents/BYOND
    No Folder?
    1. Open your pager
    2. Click on the File menu
    3. Click on the "Preferences..." option
    4. Click on the "Advanced" tab
    5. Check the value of the "User Directory" and navigate to that folder.
  3. Rename the "cfg" folder to "cfg_old".
  4. Start BYOND again.

If the problem still occurs after renaming the "cfg" folder, rename it back to "cfg". Then consult our online forum. Supply as much information as you can and hopefully someone will be able to assist you.

If you have an issue that you wish for us to respond to, please make a post in the BYOND Help forums.
I've updated this post to be more relevant to the current stable version of BYOND: 458.1050.
