Back in 2009, I started pixel art. I eventually quit, came back, quit again and started back again.

So for two months, I've been working on making a base.
I've finally came up with one that was at least slightly presentable.

I'm doing incredibly horrible at this. So I need some help with this.

P.S.:Thanks for any help given in advance. :D
Don't use a white background, it hurts your color perception.

Determine a global lightsource for your project, apply it to all the pixel art for the project. Think of the shapes/forms as you shade and try to represent them with shading/lighting.

Ahh thanks a lot!
His ears are kind of low and he looks like he's looking up. Also, try making his abs and stuff more defined, maybe even widen the shoulders by a pixel or two and shrink the abdomen by a pixel or two (to make him look stacked).
Use a different color palette.
