You should finish the Item guide and give Mithril a little icon beside it on the interface.

With the naming; Add a Backspace button.

The name selection thing at the beginning is annoying. I get the old school appeal, but it's clunky and since the instructions are off to the side of the big, attention-grabbing prompt it's not very intuitive.

At a bare minimum I'd suggest putting instructions up on the screen itself. Also necessary: an indication of how many spaces we get, like by putting a box behind where each letter will go. It's very annoying to start entering a name and then get to the end and realize one is out of room. Especially since the "DEL" key wipes the whole thing instead of backspacing one.

You could do those things without violating the old school approach. I'd seriously recommend making the letters clickable or letting people just type in a name, though.

Make the character selection thing more obvious, too. Was I able to buy different characters? I seriously couldn't tell.

When I got into the game it looked promising (though no one was on), but if I hadn't seen the screenshot you posted on your blog I would have given up before I got to that point. The more inconveniences people have to go through to get to the actual game, the fewer people will stick around.

This is a lot of fun, reminds me of smash brothers. Great job.
