Nyctophobia
Read the instructions or you'll be left in the dark
(Note: In order to play Nyctophobia, it is vital that you set your BYOND client in large icon mode. Hit ctrl-B or select it from Layout-> Icon Type).
This is a game of survival--your goal is to be the last player alive. To accomplish this goal, you need to do two things:
1.Stay alive
2.Get the other players killed
To accomplish both these tasks, you must strategically move your character to stay in the light as much as possible--if a player spends two turns in complete darkness, they will be ripped to bloody shreds by the Horrible Monstrous Nightmare Beasts that lurk in the shadows. The game is not real-time, but turn-based instead; everyone takes their turns at the same time, once every 15 seconds (turn passage is indicated by spooky lines in italics). You've got a little time to plan ahead, but not much--act quickly. You enter your movement command just like regular movement in most any BYOND-based game; use the arrow keys or numpad to set a direction and your planned move will be shown with a colored arrow (further move inputs will just change your move; hit the center key to cancel it out and stay where you currently are). You can move onto the same spaces as other players, but take care that you don't run into any bushes when you're stumbling through the dark, or you could be in trouble.
In addition to moving, each turn every player has the opportunity to turn one lightbulb on or off--just click on a lightbulb to switch it. Be careful--if other players try and switch the same lightbulb as you, you might end up canceling out each other's switches! Staying in the light (and thus alive) starts out easy enough. But watch out... those lightbulbs aren't going to last forever. They're already starting to grow dim, and if they stay on for too long, they'll burn out completely. As the game progresses and more bulbs burn out, things start getting pretty hairy.
