BYOND Developer Rewards
(Coming soon!)
You are a BYOND Developer. It's a thankless job, one that involves hours of coding, testing, and hosting games to the brutish mob. You do it for the fame, the glory, the ego boost... but wouldn't it be nice to do it for some cold, hard cash too? Now you can, thanks to the new "BYONDgnome business model":
Yes, we at BYOND.com have uncovered the elusive "Phase 2", and it doesn't even involve extortion or a rich uncle." You, the developer, need only host your games to participate. Sound too good to be true? Read on!
When a user purchases a BYOND Membership, we'll put $5 into a special "game fund". Each week, as the user plays games, a portion of that $5 gets paid out to the developers of those games, according to the following schedule:
| Weeks | Payout |
|---|---|
| 1-12 | $0.25/week |
| 13-52 | $0.05/week |
So suppose SuperCoolDude buys a membership and then plays your game exclusively for the first week. That nets a shiny $0.25 in your BYOND Wallet. If he plays your game and another game equally for the next week, you and your rival developer each get $0.12. This may sound like pennies, but as your users accumulate, pennies become dollars, week after week. Think big!
You need not do anything more than host your game to take advantage of this program. You don't even have to host it yourself; if the game is popular and users host it often, you'll still reap the rewards. However, since it is in your best interest (and ours!) to encourage your user base to become BYOND Members, you may want to provide incentives to do so. DM provides a convenient function to check for membership, client.IsByondMember(). You can use this check to restrict logins or provide in-game benefits to members.
Happy profiting, BYONDgnomes!
