Space Station 13

A review for Space Station 13 created by Exadv1
Space Station 13 is a complex game that takes some time to fully understand. On the surface it doesnt look like much of a game. But dont let the graphics of this game throw you off. The game has lots of things to offer that you may not fully discover if you dont decide to play.

The game is very much based on it's community. And I'll be the first one to point out that sometimes can be troubled. But if you find a good crowd to play with, this can be one of the most fun games you'll ever play.

When you first start out you'll probably be tempted to pickup the nearest item and hit someone with it, but then you'll find yourself banned. The steep learning curve on this game can sometimes turn people away. On some servers the RP is strict and you'll quickly find yourself on the way out unless you know how to play. But for the most part most servers are leanent and most people will be happy to help you out when your new.

All in all, the game is hard, but give it a chance and you'll find yourself in the wonderful world of RP.

Look at the website's forums, if I can recall, they list them there.

Alright, now that's going too far. Are you paid to post good remarks? The server that is the only one with more then 3 players whenever I'm online is always the dumb one. As for strict role play...

I got fucking banned for having my key name as what it was along with Kuzanagi by Ikarti. May he rot in hell. Though, odd random note, I once had a dream about SS13's gang in our classroom. Ikarti looked exactly like the couch potato dude from The Noob Comic, page where their discussing who killed Cyrus. Hell, he even sounded-... Scrap that. But what has this any relevance to the role-play? Well, for one, I do NOT set the station on fire, I do NOT attack without at least talking first, I do NOT randomly tweak the pipes to not let out oxygen, and I know a basic level of the game's mechanics(Opening a locked door, the best tools for it, etc).

Well, despite that, it seems that our wonderful greifers do not get banned, but instead we(Kuzanagi, don't know him much at all, but he at least doesn't talk in all caps. Which is how those admins talk) get banned. The reason? They crack chuck norris and penis jokes, and thus earn favor of all the admins. Pfft.

Well, as we have the "Awesome Roleplay Rules" done with, now, lets see.. After being pestered into learning to play it by a friend.. Only to have him banned, but I continued.. Only to get banned repeatedly.. And now that I'm permabanned, hmm. I seem to be in the wonderful world of "Japanese internment camp", as Ikarti called it before he banned me, not in the world of role-play. And sure, I admit I'm a nuisance and was in the past questionable, but that doesn't mean I need a ban more than a greifer, right? All in all, I hope Ikarti gets some sort of flu. Would be a tourist attraction; ten tonne bull jumping up with every sneeze fit to start a quake of magnitude 10.

I think that most of the players are total assholes at times. How can you play the Nuclear mode more than once? It's always the same, run to the bridge, grab the disk, ????, nuke.

Then people bitch about griefing, people not RPing and being total assholes over a game. It's a good game but the community needs the Manners.EXE patch.

I have to agree with Lummox here. This review has offered up nothing to show us what SS13 is at all.
Here's what I've learned about SS13, even though I have played it.

1. Game apperently has bad graphics.
''But don't let the graphics of this game throw you off'

2. Not everyone is part of the golden community of rule keepers.

3. Breaking the rules once is a ban. There seems to be no discussion or assement of the rules, just a ban.

Nothing on what kind of roleplaying goes on, how the roleplaying system works, no scoring, no detials.

This review is sadly lacking in content (to say nothing of editorial quality). It just says "This is a complex game, you need to find a good group to play it with, learning might be hard, okay bye." This tells us nothing about the gestalt of the game, roughly how the play style feels, quality of graphics/sound/interface, etc. It'd be charitable to call this review thin but I am not, in these situations, a charitable man. The review is downright empty of useful information. You'd do well to delete it and start over.

ST: EF, RPG-X. Yes, it's a mod of an action game, but that means even more is required to actually RP there.

Jtgibson's post? As in, Spuzzum's post, the guy who helped Exadv1 quite a lot in the past?

He simply stated why he thinks the community has gone downhill, and I concur with his argument that the game hasn't turned out to become what it was meant to become.

I do not concur.
* The game is not hard per-se but it takes some time for a newbie to learn all the secret stuff into the game that nobody mentioned. (Things like making bombs are 'secret' even though all midbies and above know how to build one!)
* SS13 does not teach you how to role-play properly. I have been playing a 3D game somewhat like SS13. What I saw was that people were actually working together and nobody was griefing, but even though I role-played I did make some mistakes that simply do not occur in SS13. (For instance, plotjacking: steering the current role-playing story into a different direction than intended by The Powers That Be, or in most cases, the player who made up the story.)
