Another Harry Potter game? Wrong.

For those of you who are into fantasy, magic, and good role play, you better look up Hogwarts: A History. A game not based off Harry Potter, but more so based on the school in which Harry attends. The people there are great, the rules are fair, and the game is totally fun! It gives Harry Potter fans, and fans of fantasy a reason to stick around!
So how do we start off? Well basicly you start off from just exiting the train. You talk the the guy standing there and he puts you on a boat and you sail onward to Hogwarts. Once you're there, you enter the school and head to Great Hall, where a hat will assign you to 1 of the 4 houses.
After joining a house, you may look around the school and introduce yourself to some of the other wonderful players, or you may find your house room, or library to study and wait for classes. When classes are held, a brilliant guiding system will guide you as to where the classroom is. Once you are in class, you'll be taut one of several spells!
Overall, I give it a 9! Definitely a game I recommend!

I'd like to point out that TWC code has also been found in HAH. And the developer that stole said code denied it profusely. When presented with undeniable evidence, he claimed that he simply must have forgotten. Lolcakes.

I got IP Banned from HaH. The rules are too strict. Got in a fight with Lcrashed because she banned me for saying lmao. It's not like thats a HORRIBLE way to swear. It's an acronym for gods sakes. Most of the people who aren't allowed to view swear words online or anything don't know what it means. And she banned me for 5 minutes, after giving me two warnings. Lmao is part of my vocabulary and I say it on default. If you keep the strictness up, your "game" will lose its fans. I really don't care what you do, but TWC will always be better, even if its a c+p, it has a great community and is staffed by great people.

Oh, did you think I was rating HaH based on TWC? TWC is a collection of demos and tidbits of original code piled on top of a Celestial Chaos source. Garbage in my book, where if it isn't broken it's either missing or annoying.
I was rating it based on Wizard's Syndicate, which predated HaH and TWC by at least 2 years.
You lost points on originality because HaH is/was pretty clonish of the original TWC from back in 2005/6 (can't remember exactly), and TWC got almost no points of originality from me because the original of that was a direct copy-paste of the more obvious parts of WS. After the substantial revamp in '07, it had a little more going for it for originality, but it was still extremely unfriendly in design.
If you want originality, you should strive for something more open, with more attention to the finer details of the HP world, and not just base the entire game on a collection of tiny, awkwardly designed maps that people can spam spells on and explore the entire depth of in 20 minutes (ignoring " X clan only" areas, of course, but I doubt they have anything that every other map doesn't).

Well, as one of the original creators of HAH... I suppose I'm pretty much forced to comment.
It's obviously a Harry Potter game, though we made a point to offset it from main series, but unless JKRawling decides to write another series using the same world, you can't separate Hogwarts from Harry Potter. To argue that it's not is just semantics.
Well gee, I'm disappointed that we lost 9 points on Originality. Perhaps we should have strived to make the game without houses, monsters, spells, or classes? I
t's undeniable that HAH has always owed a debt to TWC, and the game was not created to rip off TWC or to attempt to -dethrone- TWC. All of the 4 original HAH creators were active TWC players at the time (that's how we knew each other). If anything, I'd say that the primary motive for starting HAH was because we were dissatisfied with a lack of improvement towards TWC.
We've always tried to differentiate HAH from TWC, but we were obviously constrained in what we could do. It's hard to imagine a Hogwarts/Harry Potter game in which you don't learn spells primarily from classes or sort students based on houses; it just wouldn't be Hogwarts.
We've, therefore, aimed to differentiate HAH in more subtle ways, using a more automated class system, a more flexible clan system, and more varied spells.
It's regrettable that many icons are not original, but you do what you can. None of the icons (to the best of my knowledge) have been stolen, all taken from open source projects and such.
As for the source: HAH was started from scratch. It was not based off of Ragnarok's code, but there is a reason for some degree of similarity: Early on in the project, Ragnarok, who was not actively coding TWC at the time, offered to "help" with the project. While the decision to accept his help was retrospectively foolish, it ended badly when parts of the HAH source were found within TWC (In fact, some of them were still there, when Ragnarok released the TWC source a year ago), which led to Ragnarok being removed from the project, which led to him releasing the source publicly. And, several spells were directly ripped from HAH to TWC after that.
While the incident occurred much to early in the project to cause significant damage, it is still a regretable incident and has caused... hostility since then.

Hm. I semi-agree. I love the game, don't get me wrong - but I love the game for the community. The rules are too strict.
I'm not one of the rulebreakers who complains and says, "Unban me pl0x. I didnt curse on purpose, c'mon!" or anything of the sort - I follow the rules, so you can trust me when I tell you that the rules are a teensy weensy bit too strict. If you say, "Dayum!" you're muted. Let's see..."SETA!" = mute. I mean, c'mon.
I'll continue to play for the levels and community, but honestly? I prefer TWC (The Wizard's Chronicles) more.

Actually if you read the post it clearly states that the game is not based off Harry Potter but rather the school.

This game's rather... "Meh," to me. I've played it long enough to get to a moderately respectable position (on other keys - Highest was level 120 or so), so you can trust my judgment.
Gameplay: 4/10
This game might have an above average variety when it comes to locations and spells, but unless you really dedicate your time to the game you won't get to experience either. Games are not meant to be commitments, and viewing this game from that perspective merely enhances the mind-numbing repetition that comes from standard gameplay (Id Est, holding down a macros for 9 hours as you grind for experience). Classes are few and far between, pervading an atmosphere of mediocrity and silliness when teachers do deign to hold one, most spells are poorly coded and many have no function that will keep you entertained beyond 15 minutes, and the AI system is overpowered but easy to fool.
Presentation: 6/10
Very few original icons, but I must admit that the icons used do not interfere with each other or create contrasting atmospheres, which is a problem I've been having with the icons I've been making for the revamp of HP:WS. Beyond that, though, the icons are overly simple and lack character, even with the latest addition of some means of customization.
Originality: 1/10
This game doesn't do anything other HP games haven't done in the past. It has classes, houses, straight-line spells, targeted spells, and monsters, all of which appeared in older games.
Overall: 4/10
Even with it's drawbacks, HaH is probably the most active HP game on Byond at this moment in time. It has a brighter atmosphere, a simpler map, and a less aggressive student body than TWC, so if that appeals to you play this in lieu of it. Really, though, I'd only recommend it because choices are limited.

> Well it's possible Ragnarok's codes were used in the production of HAH from TWC. I've looked at both of the source codes, and a lot of them is very similar. (got rid of the source code, so don't pester me about it - it's outdated and you wouldn't even need it).
Ragnarok also stole from us at Harry Potter: Wizard's Syndicate. He took some of the code and ripped our icons.

Hey the games fun and but while i was playing the game i saw many icons that were rips not that i havent riped icons here and there but this game i see they have took many icons from icon packs. I went searching and found that the books green house beds and much more were all rips i was kinda disapointed when i found them but it being a great game makes up for it. Plus i know how hard it is to make orignal icons.
Ideas: Hogwarts should have some remodleing it gets boring after its been same for year or 2.Also you need a bigger town it would let you have more quest and more shops. Need more monsters. Also add moveing stairs. Last add year by year more people are born in the town some die kinda makeing it a realistic
