Here's the new layout for Tech Tree. Developers are responsible for their own promotional tools. I'm not creating screenshots. I'm not clipping existing screenshots. If there are no screenshots, I'll try using a banner. If there is no banner, I may try the developer's avatar.

Pardon the invite links. I'm formatting this mostly for Gamasutra and you guys said you didn't mind the last time I asked. I can make sure to remove them in future posts if they bother you. (As far as I can tell, there's no way to edit the CSS in Gamasutra's editor/filter so I have to rely on style attributes and the HTML is a mess. Speak up if you know what I'm doing wrong.)

The guild's blog has been open to submissions for ages, but nobody ever took advantage of it. This week, I posted a set of General Article Guidelines (as opposed to review guidelines) which, as always, can be found in the rules section. Meanwhile, the New Conquests and Logistics forums have been merged into Our State since the blog makes them almost obsolete.

We've had a couple events/contests posted so far. Feel free to post more along with developer journals.

CalusCoRPS' ( Fortay, is likely to receive a graphical update using the isometric capabilities that the BYOND staff is working on. =)

Please note that, while the files are not hidden, those using unofficial releases of BYOND should avoid bothering the staff with bug reports until a public version is released.

The abstract, competitive dungeon crawl, GrimTunnel is no longer being featured by the guild. It might regain its status later, but the redundant interface has become tiresome. Just how many times does a player have to be told to click the G links? The developer is a fool.

A beta version of an RTS, called Empirez, has been released by a group calling themselves EmpirezTeam. I added it to the guild. There's no download available, but the team claims that sessions will be hosted regularly. (Actually, there's a server up as I type this.) Meanwhile, the team seems to be getting some flak for not posting screenshots on the game's BYOND hub entry. I don't understand since they went a step further and created a video.

BenG's boardgame, Breakthrough, has been added to the guild. It's an older BYOND game which probably would have been listed earlier, but I believe there were download issues. The goal is to move one of 16 pieces to the opposite end of the 8x8 board.

Acebloke released Beta D of his empire building game, Wargames 2, and then patched it up. There have been many changes, including improved AI, new research, new units, and alliances. Meanwhile, a map and scenario editor is also available.

Oasiscircle apologized to his players for not updating his defense game, Turtle Towers, as much as he used to. I think he's doing fine. He released two more versions this week with new mini bosses, a new unit, and balances for increased difficulty.

Besides, he's conveniently forgetting that I wrote him a rain check to destroy me in his wargame, Nemesis. ;)

Xodinblood updated Godship: Egyptian Majesties. As usual, there is no record of the changes. The MIDI rendition of Castle on a Cloud still there. Maybe Cosette can get her mother back from Anubis.

Geldonyetich is working on the next design of his RTS, Vehicle Wars. This week, he decided to focus on a single faction and worked out some interface kinks. He's currently running a poll to help him decide how much his efforts should be divided by the RTS and RPG aspects.

Exophus is taking the opportunity to create what he calls a "tactical engine" using BYOND's soon-to-be-released isometric capabilities. I can't look at his rope bridge without thinking of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Last Sunday, IainPeregrine's Sessions Guild enjoyed Flick's simultaneous battle, Mano A Mano, and BenG's Breakthrough. This Sunday, the guild is planning a return to Mano A Mano. In additon, they're contemplating midweek sessions of various games. Hopefully, they'll feel free to post any events involving strategy projects on the BYOND Strategy blog.

Removal from the guild's featured list aside, I worked on GrimTunnel this week. I didn't add audio and I didn't add a press-your-luck mechanic. Instead, my first attempt at posting Tech Tree pictures embarassed me into updating the interface. I posted comparisons.

Fooldom Come: One subscription. Many games.

Cool. I rarely get to post videos that are directly related to the guild.

Congratulations to The Dice Tower for their 1000th video review. However, since the review is Candyland, I think I'll post a recent episode of Boardgames with Scott instead. ;)

If you have not voted in this post's video poll yet, scroll up and do so... This video could be playing dirty.

Got news? Cheers to The Dark Mod team on their release. Jeers to the cancellation of the Idle Thumbs podblast.

Ahhh, I forgot I was on the BYOND Strategy guild, my bad! Haha

There's nothing wrong with Submerged. I just don't think it has mechanics that would label it as a strategy game. You've been calling it an "action oriented, Survival Horror game". =)

No love for Submerged?

The extra random videos don't really contribute anything to the post, unless they're at least somehow strategy related.

As a matter of fact, the unofficial 455 build now is hidden.
Guess they got the message after this. :)

As I said in the intro (and the test posted on my blog that you didn't comment on), I'll use whatever is available. However, there's a point where asking me to come up with a developer's promotion material is ridiculous.

Granted, I could have provided a Fortay screenshot up front, but it was a last minute addition with a large file. I was already on the fifth hour of writing this thing... and I didn't know Supernatural was going to be a repeat. ;)

PS: You do realize I was kidding in my last post, right? =)

Those aren't pictures, those are just game icons, mostly. I think you probably missed the point. And as we always say, don't ask for opinions if you don't want them! this guy has a blog with pictures.

@Foomer: Don't push it, smartass. You got your pictures and new layout. ;)

@IainPeregrine: While they usually don't reference BYOND, I try to post at least one video with some connection to strategy games. The Dice Tower and Board Games With Scott are usually good for that. I also try to reference indie games, with shows like ByteJacker, or videogames in general, with shows like CO-OP. Even if they don't affect BYOND developers directly, they can give them a sense of a larger community.

Granted, I toss other things in for flavor as well. However, that's generally because the weird personal stuff is what keeps people coming back on most blogs. Straight information can be accessed from multiple sites. Perhaps the lack of BYOND information available makes people think Tech Tree should be more formal.

@Oasiscircle: I wasn't mocking. I was stating how kind you were and how it allowed me to forgive the alleged lack of updates. I feel bad when I have to tell developers that I don't have time to play their games because I'm working on my own.

@Tsfreaks: I don't need to post Rocketboom stuff now that host is settled. I may avoid music videos in general so Molly Lewis (sweetafton23) won't be an option. Brigitte Dale won't need any of my sorry help if she gets the Good Mood gig (which it looks like she will), but she said Tech Tree rules so it's a bit fuzzy. Tonya Scott is the craziest (and my focus), but she doesn't post often.

I stopped watching them when they went to multiple videos per post. Either I felt that you were just posting videos out of obligation and without there being any connection to your posts, or I have commitment issues.

Videos should have something to do with BYOND Strategy... Make some strategy game videos.

I always liked the videos here. I never bother to find them on my own, so they provide some entertainment sometimes.
