Ambrosia

For my GIAD 2009 entry, I made Ambrosia. I wrote this up about a week ago, on last Sunday, with the themes "Ambrosia" and "Fluid". Because I wanted to make a game involving pixel movement and vectors, I decided ambrosia was the way to go, as I could play with various aspects of physics (EDIT: that didn't involve fluid). Sadly, I was only able to get in 4-5 hours of programming, so I could only get gravity in (I was originally hoping to toy with magnetic fields, pushing the ambrosia via bumping into it, repelling it via the opposite of the force of gravity, etc.) In the version I submitted, there was a minor collision bug I decided against fixing (it took only about 3 minutes to fix, but I wanted to get in all the sleep I could), and the hub password was different (so scores can't be haxed).

Either way, enjoy, maybe I'll be able to add an update in the future that gets rid of the flicking icon bug and adds the god powers/power ups I planned.

Well, if you mean they collided outside of Olympus, that makes sense. However, it's impossible for them to collide while inside it while going opposite directions, as the maximum speed is 9 (so ambrosia cannot go straight through other ambrosia), and the radius of Olympus is 16. In other words, the closest they could be is within about 14 pixels. Chances are some ambrosia collided off screen at roughly the same time (that normally doesn't happen, but it can).

Are you sure?

As far as colliding while entering Olympia goes, that's impossible, as Olympia has a radius of 16 and the Ambrosia has a radius of 9.

Also, thanks for confirming the fix.

I'm pretty sure I witnessed Ambrosia coming from opposite directions and then colliding while entering the god hole (band name?) at the same time.

I also verified the "spacebar" bug is fixed in your latest update.

If it gets too large, it can't fit into the hole and it will continue to collect mass while moving around until it implodes into a black hole. So collisions are ok up to a point. The speed and direction should change on collision (resetting) the pigeons efforts to guide.

While this isn't good for your smaller ambrosia collecting, it helps you to kill a larger collection of abmrosia that is causing your grief. While trying to get rid of the bigger ball, you would also be attracting the smaller ones making for a fuxorplux. :)

Right. :) It's a fun concept game though. Worthy of some spare time if ever there is some. :)

Nice ideas, and the bug report is nice. I'll fix that, though I don't know what else I'll do with the project. As a GIAD, it's pretty unorganized, and the actual game was thrown together in around 20 minutes.

Ah...
Ok. I think I found a bug then and I have a couple light suggestions.

- Bug: Hitting the spacebar quickly and endlessly allows you to sit in the middle and get a highscore.

Other ideas...
- The dots collide and become faster and/or heavier (larger) making them harder to guide. If it gets too large, it can't fit into the hole and it will continue to collect mass while moving around until it implodes into a black hole. So collisions are ok up to a point. The speed and direction should change on collision (resetting) the pigeons efforts to guide.
- There is an artifact (you find an approproate one (such as a Trident)of some kind that floats around slowly. If the ambrosia hit the artifact, they are destroyed. While this isn't good for your smaller ambrosia collecting, it helps you to kill a larger collection of abmrosia that is causing your grief. - An alternative mode... you have to collect a larger size before submitting to the gods otherwise they will get pissed and create a black hole to punish you for your insulting gift.
- Black holes could be fewer and move around.

Fun.

Well, the goal is mostly to try and keep your distance while guiding them. If you get too close, they'll start flying, because gravity is like that. At first, you can normally just sit in the center of the map while they come to you, then you will eventually need to start guiding them around the dark holes.

lol... it tried playing it... heh.

When I played, the orange dots zip around the page and I can never "catch" them. When I touch them, they shoot off at a faster rate.

Interesting concept though...

It came up, you just needed to give it a little time :P. Either way, thanks, I still think it's a bit lacking, though.
