Basically, the story takes place in a distant land - Japan. Isolated from the rest of the world, and believing that only savagers and barbarians exsist outside their hounerble empire. In the center of the island lies the Imperial palace where the Empire himself resites, protected by the Imperial army - His palace is a giant fortress. Surrounding the palace is the Imperial City, the largest merchant quarters in the land, and home to thousands of nobels. On the outskirts, skatted along the coast lines and mainland are the smaller, but equally important villages. Some are small towns, a resting point for the adventures and travellers that scury the highlands, others are farming towns which feed the empire. Occasionlly there are the larger towns, which quailfy to be classed as a city, usually which run on exporting and importanting food via docks. Docks are also a quick and cheap way to travel, keep that in mind during the game.

The three main characters in this game are; The Ninja, The Samurai and The mercenary. All three have a different story line, but all three are played at the same time, for example, three players one of each class can complete the game together in multiplayer enviroment, but doing different quests and finish with a different ending.

The Ninja Begins his or her quest when the clan's training school is attacked and destroyed by a band of rogue samurai employed by an evil warlord named Son-Hai. They leave no one alive, not even the women and children. The quest for justice leads the ninja through small towns, large cities, right up into the imperial palace. Inside the ninja learns a distubing trust about just what he or she is fighting for...

The Samurai Begins his or her quest employed by Son Hai, a brilliant stradigest with an evil side and a dark conept of the world. The samurai is loyal to the warlord until the day he is instrcuted to slaughter children at a local village. The samurai then becomes enraged, and swears to bring down the warlord, after going rogue, the samurai finds himself travelling towards the imperial city, in search for Son Hai.

The Mercenary Begins his or her quest when the boat his crew where travelling on drifts of course, and leaves them strandard on a strange, and dark island. Being the only alive and unable to walk away from the wreckage, he sets out to explore this mystery land, what he uncovers, is a whole new civilization. The strange people look and speak different to him, he has no way of communicating or requesting supplys with these people. His quest to understand their language, and venture home is not an easy one.

Throughout the game, players can interact with each other in a variety of ways, fellowships or partys, allows the players to hunt and share experience with each other, making those harder quests to finish a litle easier. Bonus "Mini-Quests" can be done as a party, which in some cases are alot easier, or alot harder. The players also have the abilty to create clans, which will be usefull for PvP (Player VS Player). Another key feature to this game is the alligement of each invdivial player. If you happen to be evil, the choice to murder and steal is always there, if you're lawful and good, NPC's may give you useful information. In both cases, there are pro's and con's to being evil or good. The alligment is competley different to simply choosing to be good or evil, instead, every one of your actions and reactions are taken into account, therefor however you decide to play the game, weather it be evil or good, is the alligment you will end up with. This gives the player a choice to conver to evil or good during the game, but over time.
