Well, it's about 2 hours early, but it doesn't matter because you've all now got 3 months to get to work and create your BYOND Space Game!

Build A Space Game 2009 is Officially Open!

Here's the entry criteria for the game.

  • The game must be build using BYOND in the Dream Maker language.
  • You may use libraries as long as they are clearly shown.

  • The Game should be based around one of the following themes (these are optional but will heavily influence your overall score)
    • HORROR
    • ASTEROIDS
    • SCAVENGING
  • Scoring information will be released sortly.

DISQUALIFICATION CRITERIA:
==========================
  • You are found to have started the game before 20/09/2009
  • You are found to have more than 5 persons on your team.
  • You fail to submit your entry before 21/12/2009
  • You include copyrighted material in your project.
  • You include another person's work in your game without permission and giving the appropriate credit.
  • You use code from previous projects.
  • You fail to meet any of the entry criteria.

    * - Documentation means at MINIMUM a basic 'help' file in a .txt for players.
Can this help file be turned into a tutorial? I don't like help files.
Tutorial, helpfile, reference, quickstart, FAQ, whatever you wish.
Alright. I'll see if I can muster something up in these three months. Hopefully you keep posting about this a lot because I'm bound to completely forget about it when I'm focusing on my bigger projects.
Sorry to keep asking questions, but I've got one more :)

Can we use Flash so long as it's purely in a supporting role to BYOND? For example, a client-side interface of some sort for a multiplayer game that would pass all of the user input to DM for actually usage. I was thinking of making a... well, ship customization system, and Flash is the only thing I can think of that would provide the fast pixel precision I want (JavaScript can be a bit cumbersome..)
You can do pretty much whatever you want so long as you don't meet the disqualification criteria. I'd actually encourage the use of other mediums to support BYOND - it shows real initiative.

* You use code from previous projects.

All my code comes from previous projects. Why would I write another key-state or skin/macro-preferences system when I already have those modules ready to go? It seems like your punishing good developers for using object oriented programming principles.

Edit: Also, where do we submit our entries?
By that I mean you can't copy/paste an entire 'levelling' system into your new project. Using previously made modules as library-type objects is more than acceptable.

Edit: There will be a secure web-page where you can fill out a form as part of your entry, upload the files, etc.

I'm not sure on the exact date submissions will be open, probably after one month.

Better watch out for Gamemakingdude.
