FRO Map Editor!

I have not posted on my blog for awhile, so, I'll make a post about my progress with Fantasy Realm Online.

Many people now know that Iccusion Entertainment and Chris LaPay's Fantasy Realm Online project is coming out for beta testing this Saturday. Even though it's more like alpha testing a demo, it is a very exciting thing to see. Anybody who hasn't registered should head over to http://www.fantasyrealmonline.com and register so you can play the beta when it is released.

On to the topic. I have been doing quite a bit of work on the world map that will be used in the beta. What I have planned to be playable for the beta is a large castle town surrounded by walls, towers, outposts, and such. Not much artwork has been implemented, so many things will look repetitive, but once more art is added, the map can easily be spiced up. While working with the very unstable map editor, I have been fixing it up some.

This project has been progressing very well the last couple of days and has come a long way from back in 2000 (a year before I started working on it).

Anyway, here are some screenshots of the main entrance (after the gates) of the unnamed castle town.

Weird?

I don't know what it is, but everytime I read somebody else's blog or forum post, I start to reply with what I think on the matter. I get halfway, if not all the way, done with my reply and decide not to post it. This is pretty much why you never see me posting much. I do this every day. It takes up so much of my time... It's rather annoying, actually. It might be because I don't take sides, or it might be because I am just weird... I don't know.

Trends!

Google has released a new service called Google Trends. This new service can be found at http://www.google.com/trends. You put in words and it shows you what cities and countries are searching that sort of thing most and shows a graph of. My fiancee and I used it for awhile and found some rather hilarious results. Try searching "I am fat", it's rather funny what countries are searching this the most. I know just because one country searches something more doesn't mean anything, I just thought it was rather funny and ironic. Also, if you want a real laugh, search "Penis Enlargement".

I hope none of this offends anybody. If so, I am sorry. That was not the intention.

But check it out! It's rather fun and interesting.

Contest?

Just wondering who would participate in a new BYOND Game Making Contest. The contest would be based on who could create the best game in a month. It could be any type of game. The games would be judged on quality of graphics, gameplay, user-friendliness, professionalism, and a few others. Prizes would be around $5-$50 with various subscriptions and memberships. Most likely the more participants, the higher the prizes. BYOND needs more good quality games, and many developers feel that they would be making them for no reason, so I'd like to motivate them and show them that it could be for a reason. It will be sponsored by Iccusion Entertainment, but Iccusion members will not participate, to ensure nobody thinks bias occurs. People would be allowed to submit as many games as they would like, and would be able to work in teams.

So, does this sound interesting to anybody? We're looking to get 10 to 15 participants, if possible.

Fooled!

108 people fooled. Just thought I'd let everybody know how many people downloaded our April Fools source code joke (whether they fell for it or not). Sorry if it upset anybody (no wonder I don't have any friends, heh).

See you next year!
