Wow, nearly there.

What I got now is what I feel to be a presentable 2.0 for download. There is still a few more things to do before I replace the official download version though, so you still need to manually do it yourself:

In the last 8 months, 200+ downloads of this file has been made despite it being hidden away from the main download, so I know there are still interested parties in the game. If you have not joined a 2.0 server last year when I was hosting it, you will be in for a bit of a shock at how much the game has changed. However, like I said, there is still some things to do, mostly because I wanted to hastily remove the old version and put up what I got so I can start getting into that update frenzy again.

So before I do update the main download and officially announce the 2.0 release, I wanted to list what I got left to do (consider this a 1.9.9.9 release :P )

1) Need to set the Research Department to grey out research that is done
2) Extention of above, need to put the non-resource research into the Research Department
3) Army lists need to return to the war department, I got so fed up of updating this before that I removed it awhile ago in the main version. This time it should be more automated and require less of my time.

4) The Bonus units for UK/US/Russia warmart purchases still need to be activated (the French/Italy/German packs which is also available with the subscription however is already in game).
5) Try and get that data exporter finished.
6) The Resources department doesn't show all the methods for resources per turn yet.
7) I need to do the alliance department yet. You can still use the 1.something method of the map hud commands for basic alliance commands, but changes to alliances will be made with the new department.
8) Finally, update the help stuff in the game, and produce some 'welcome to 2.0' material for new and old players alike.

After that is done, 2.0 is officially released.

I'm not in a position to host at the time being, but the updates post-2.0 will probably not be the weekly/fortnightly fest of the good old days. What instead you'll likely see is fuller, complete updates to features, firstly on readding various things that 2.0 doesn't have (ship combat, air combat, space development), expansion on planned upgrades of current features (nuking, religion, more units, alliances etc) and then finally to new features. As I said, rather than going tip toe slowly into features, they should be fully implemented post-2.0 updates to avoid the faffing around.

Long term features that never really got implemented fully is things like approval rate (which was probably added in 2007 and then never got worked on after), religion (which other than a few units did nothing special) and trade (already a number of new features such as passive trading for extra cash, and automatic buying of global market resources from other players when hitting low numbers of important resources-customisable).

I don't know when the 2.0 release will be out, but I expect at least half of the 8 points outlined above to be completed this weekend.
