Hey guys, it's been a long, long while.

I've recently come back to BYOND after a nice two year hiatus, only to be confronted by the fact that my lovely new ISP blocked all ports EXCEPT for port 22. Any randomly generated port I try it doesn't allow the game to be uploaded to the website, and yet port 22 seems to work fine.

Yet apparently, after doing a little bit of research, people have been saying it's the "pandora's box" of ports, as in you shouldn't use it because it may impose dire consequences via security breach. Is this true?
If you're actually running SSH on port 22, then yes, it could be constituted as a potential security breach because other systems will try to attack your system on that port.

But if you're hosting a BYOND world on that port then you should be safe from harm. The systems that will attack you will attempt to attack the SSH server running on that port. And since you're not running an SSH server on that port there is nothing to breach.
Excellent post, man. As I'm reading more and more into this issue it seems to be that way; it definitely puts me much more at ease with your assurance.

I appreciate it :D
