If you are having problems logging in / connecting to games...

Some users are currently experiencing problems going "online" in the BYOND Pager and hence connecting to games. If you are among them, or know someone who is, read on.

By default, the pager connects to a machine called "hub.byond.com" to retrieve information about players, find games, and authenticate keys. What has happened here is that, for some users, that machine has become unreachable. This happens from time to time when a nameserver between the ISP and the server receives corrupted information.

This first thing is to try to refresh the information. In our tests, this hasn't been met with much success, but it doesn't hurt to try. In windows:
Start -> Run -> cmd
then: ping hub.byond.com

That should confirm that the hub is unreachable.
type: ipconfig /flushdns
and
then: ping hub.byond.com

(you may want to try this a few times, and/or restart your modem and try the command again.)

if the hub is now reachable, the problem is solved. If not, you'll want to configure your pager to point to an alternate hub, hosted on our web machine:
1) Close all BYOND programs.
2) Open up the pager, byond.exe
3) Go to File -> Preferences -> Advanced
4) In the "Hub Address" box, type: www.byond.com:6001
5) Try to login

Or you can just wait and let the problem resolve itself on its own (nameserver issues self-correct as the correct information makes its way across the interwebz).

In the next version of BYOND, we'll add some stuff to configure these alternate routes by default, so hopefully if/when the problem recurs users won't experience downtime.

Sorry for the inconvenience (even though it wasn't our fault this time :)

First off (and this goes for everyone in this thread who has a BYOND problem), this is *not* the help forum. A little bit of effort on your part would have led you to http://www.byond.com/help/forum which is also readily available as a link in the top navigation of this website.

Secondly, Mr. Prodigy, if you insist on acting like a child by posting in the wrong place to begin with *then* verbally abusing complete strangers (in violation of some level of community standards, no less) when it is more likely the fault is at your end *and* you've obviously haven't done diddli-squat to research if others have had the same problem (they have) and whether solutions exist (they do), then yes the staff might very well tell you what you can do with your attitude.

Oh, and hiding cuss words with * is still cussing. You're not fooling anyone.

nothing seems to work, i canot accsess any games at all, the message i get is:

Welcome BYOND! (4.0 Public Version 454.1036)
Logging in...connected
Logged in as Zangetu.
Connecting to byond://67.208.116.130:27021...connected
Connection died.
Connection failed.

The point at where this message comes up is where it sais: Connecting to byond://67.208.116.130:27021...
After a few moments i get the message, logged in as.. and so forth. I hope this helps find a way around the problem as unfortunately the other suggestions are not fixing the problem for me.

Ok I've been doing this for the pass week but my internet is down so I can download new versions until the virus gets swiped. However For a couple of days now it would say "BYOND central not accessible" even with the 6001 address. Any advice and what does that alert mean?

I get this problem often, i can go long periods of times without it, but once every blue moon i can't sign in >.>. Also i find that [for me at least] if you just type in the IP address of the game your trying to connect to it works fine. Its the byond world. stuff that messes you up.

Ps. Flushing didn't work for me.

Haven't been able to log in my pager for about a week. BYOND central also seems to be inaccessible for about 3/4 of the day.

Thanks for your help but it still doesn't work unfortunately, the second one worked for like an hour for me and then when i tried to play another game dream seeker wouldn't connect ~.~ , its not really our fault , i had no problem as such in versions earlier than 449 so it must be something wrong with BYOND.
~Thanks~

Nice fix, also where has the digest gone and why when I am alerted a update is needed for BYOND itself I can't do it from the BYOND Pager?
