General Guidelines Additions:
- The game should be at least within the late-alpha stages. This pretty much means your game must be functional and have a decent portion of it finished.
- The game must supply a main objective or goal. Don't submit games that have no playing value and reason to play.
I think the above two guidelines could be combined into something like this:The game must be at least in its late-alpha stages. This means it must have a goal, a win condition (or lose condition, if the game never ends,) and more-or-less be playable from start to finish. Bugs are acceptable, and content may be a little low, but the basic gameplay should be complete. If that's too strict, we can make it a bit more lax, but I think it's pretty clear
- If your game is using another game's source, it must credit the original owner supplying a link to the original game. On top of that, it should supply multiple changes to the original game.
This one sounds good to me
Featured Games Guidelines Additions:
- If your game uses outside resources, you must have full permission of the owner to use them. If you are continuing a game there must be a large addition of improvement or change from the original.
I'm torn as to whether or not it's worth featuring these games at all. As you've noted yourself, no real examples of "unique" gameplay coming out of another game's source come to mind. I think we should just bar all rips (or whatever you want to call them). If a truly amazing game comes along that is a rip, we'll make an exception, or maybe it'll be so different from the original no one will even know it was based off of another game's source.

I think requiring help files would be a good general rule as well, as it goes along with the game being playable (e.g. can players play it without a help file of any kind?). I can't think of any classics we would risk losing, most of them are pretty good about including help files. |
