Pick from list

Maintain state:
value on top face

rotation of side faces (or arrow on top face)

location on game board

relation to other dice (grouping/stacking)

color

size

odor (requires diced cheese)

Don't forget they also are great for propping up miniatures that are only partially on a raised table feature (hill, ridge, etc.).

The also make painful projectiles!
