A little help with my computer

I have a Windows 2000 thats giving me some troubles. Everything on the computer is running fine, except the internet. My internet works on another computer that I'm using right now (Windows 95), but on the 2000, it just doesn't want to recieve packets. I have no idea whats wrong, I've tried numerous Ethernet cards that work fine on my other computers, and installed them on the 2000, but no luck.

I don't have any firewall installed of some sort, so it can't be that. Someone halp?

if your not using the windows 2000 for any specific reason try switching to a linux or if you still have business on the windows 2000 dual boot ubuntu thats what I did when my pc wouldn't connect to the internet for some reason the linux would pick up the internet still turns out the reason I couldn't connect was didn't have the internet driver(as well as alot of others that are unrelated to my internet problem)
