I've been going back and watching some of my favourite movies recently, and I just want to share them and get some great suggestions for movies to watch that could become some new favourites from you. So go ahead and post your top movies and please include a paragraph of why, WITHOUT spoiling any of the plot please.

These are in no particular order by the way.

1)Amélie(2001)

This movie is spilling over with charm. It's a romantic comedy, but its nothing like a romantic comedy you might see from Jennifer Aniston or Cameron Diaz. The main character is adorable and whimsical, with a grand wondering imagination. The scenes are beautifully shot, with really amazing background imagery. The film does this wonderful thing where it introduces all the characters with a little information about them, namely their likes and dislikes. This makes for many hilarious scenes, and interesting personalities. I'd recommend this film if you like quirky(kind of an overused term) romantic comedies with a little twist.

2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(2004)

This movie makes it's way into a lot of top movie lists, and for good reason. This movie is romantic, but its most certainly not a comedy. Its quite depressing actually. The story is so engaging the time is going to fly by. Jim Carrey actually plays a serious role in this film, which I was put off by initially. Jim Carrey not doing comedy? But trust me, he pulls off the role of an anti-social average Joe phenomenally. I'd also like to compliment the soundtrack of this film, the music is very immersive, it fits the mood of the film perfectly.

3) Phantom of the Opera(2004)

A lot of people prefer the Broadway performances to the movie, but i've never seen this on Broadway so I wouldn't know. This movie a musical, with the lead roles played by Gerald Butler and Emily Rossum. I've seen it countless times throughout my life, and have actually memorized the entire movie. It being a musical makes this a lot easier than normal films granted. The scores are great, the theatre this movie is shot in is beautiful, and the acting is solid. Why do I prefer it to other musicals? I'm not sure, the characters just speak more to me I guess.

4)Mirror Mask (2005)

Man, where do I start with this one. I'd compare it to Alice in Wonderland for sure, they share a lot of similarities. The main character is lost in a fantasy world with a ton of insane characters, while looking for a way to get back home. The movie is extremely visually interesting, the world is like something out of a twisted artist's mind. The music has this amazing relaxing jazz type of feel, I loved it so much I burned a copy on a CD which I keep in my car for long drives. The story has a slight twist, but nothing mind bending. Just sit back and relax to this immersive world.

5) Rid of Me (2011)

This is one of those love it or hate it films. I think those who have dealt with severe anxiety will really appreciate the awkward scenes in the movie. At first I was put off by the weird camera angles and the shots where the actors/actresses were staring at the camera, but it really grew on me. The movie did a great job of portraying that fake group who never really left high school, and main character is easy to relate to. Overall this is a film that will send you through a roller coaster of emotion if you can identify with it.

Quick honorable mentions: Seven Samurai(1954), Pulp Fiction(1994), V for Vendetta(2005), Drowning Mona(2000), 5cm per second(2007).

tl;dr recommend your favourite movies to me.
Have you seen "Yes Man"? Great movie. Another good one, is "The Invention of Lying".

I tend to like concept movies, such as "Inception", "The Matrix", "Jumper", "Looper", and the like. Nothing is cooler than a totally new theory / concept that doesn't exist in present day reality.

I have seen The Invention of Lying, it was hilarious. I haven't seen Yes Man though, i'll see if they have it on netflix, if not I guess i'm going to the pirate bay lol.

I've seen all four of those movies, Inception probably being my favourite out of those, with looper at a close second. I do like movies like these.
Lol i'm not sure if you're serious or trolling. I have seen the first kung-fu panda but not the second. Why are those your favourite movies?

My favorite film is the Fifth Element. It's got everything, action, comedy, romance, a dash of horror, etc.

Hero: Bruce Willis as Korben Dallas. This guy is great, a tired ex-military, now cab driver, who gets chosen to save the world (whether he wants to or not). Master of weaponry and negotiation, he doesn't care if you've got a gun bigger than him, the safety's probably on. (or not) "Big Bada-Boom"

Villain: Zonbatist. Emmanuel. Zorg. played by Gary Oldman, one of the best actors alive. This guy is, as a villain, incredibly lovable as he's extremely charismatic, has a character flaw that lets the watcher underestimate him (the limp/braced leg) and he's got just the most unique haircut ever. Seriously, plastic cap and a long bang. Who the heck thinks of that?! "I know..."

Romance: Leeloo, The Fifth Element. Mila Jovovich kicks ass, we all know this, but if she isn't the cutest, pluckiest, ancient supreme being around then I don't know what she is. She kicks ass, doesn't care if people see her naked, and she speaks a crazy sounding language (forgive me, it's not crazy it's "divine"). "Multi-Pass!"

Other Notable Characters:

Mr.Shadow - Not seen much, but probably one of the scariest "bigger bad"s out there. This thing is a concentration of pure evil and represents everything that is against life. This thing is so scary it'll make you bleed pure fear from your skull. Yes, that black liquid is supposed to be fear.

Ruby Rhod/Chris Tucker - Annoying as fuck, but it's fun to watch him flip his shit on a constant basis. "BZ-Z-Z-Z-ZZZ!!"

Vito Cornelius/Ian Holm - Great character, lots of faith and intelligence behind this confused old man who's just trying to uphold his religion and save the universe by helping the fifth element. "Evil begets evil Mr. President..."

The most mindblowing thing about the whole film though: You notice, Dallas and Zorg never actually meet. Despite them being the protagonist/antagonist, not once do they encounter one another.
The Last Samurai
Gridiron Gang
The Myth

Regards :).
#1 - Shottas (2002)
Narrates the life of two jamaican childhood friends, whom in order to survive in this world in decadence, has to -and also likes- get involved in drugs, crime, violence, and make their way up to be a true gangsta.
Unlikely other movies this one includes realism and action, a lot of people dies there...

#2 - A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Though old, this si a good movie indeed.

#3 - Get Rich or Die Tryng (2005)
ahh odd one odd one...

What the HELL do you know about shottas?

And Mines are:

#1- Can't buy Love (1985)
About some nerd who buys the most popular girls love and they become BF/GF and he becomes super popular but screws it all up.

That's all I can think of.
Well I have seen the fifth element, but it was a long time ago so I don't remember much. From Bureal's list I have only seen the last samurai. I haven't seen any from fushimi's list so I might give a clockwork orange a chance because the title sounds really interesting. As for the land before time, who hasn't seen it. Petrie was always my favorite.

Watch it when you can. It's on youtube, the whole movie, and it's a fun watch.

Imma back up Bravo, this movie is really good and interesting. I remember watching this back in middle school though,soo.. might re watch it. You all should check it out. And yes Petrie ._.?
Full metal jacket is another good one from Stanley Kubrick he also wrote A clockwork orange.

Fifth element was spectacular.

Total Recall (the old version) is a must see.
Yeah full metal jacket. I'm not a huge military movie fan, but whenever they come up in a film discussion that's usually one of the first mentioned. It's been on my list to watch forever now. Total recall is awesome, I haven't seen the 2012 version is it any good?
I didn't enjoy the 2012 version it was ruined even before they started making it.

To stay on topic my favourite move is Jurassic Park, all of them, just something about these movies that is great, Also I heard rumors of a new one! apparently 3D, lucky I bought that 3D TV :D
My 3 personal faves are

Deathwatch - About a group of british soldiers who capture a trench from a small band of Germans and face Hell on earth as they get killed off one by one by barbed wire and such

The Nest - oh dear, I love this movie soo much. it is pretty much "Assualt on Precint 13" on drugs... a group of people are robbing a warehouse while a police escort gets ambushed nearby and they take cover in said warehouse with the detainee (Albanian Mafia Leader) as they are surrounded by the ambushers (Albanian Mafia Thugs and such)...

Reservoir Dogs - This one is a masterpiece... im sure atleast most of the people have seen this one so no need to talk about it..
Well, of course A clockwork orange is a damn amazing movie.
If any of you didn' watch it yet, you really should do.
1) Fallen(This might have actually been a series, but the DvD I bought it on had it as an 8 hour movie, so meh) - This is basically about "The Fallen". They are angels who were cast out of heaven during Lucifer's war on god and had their wings chopped off as they were damned to life on earth. The story is based around an orphan that has just turned 18, he turns out to be a nephilim, half human, half angel. This boy, Aaron(Played by Paul Wesley who you might know from The Vampire Diaries), turns out to be "The redeemer". The redeemer is someone who was prophesied to have the power of "Redemtion", by "The lightbringer(Played by Bryan Cranston, you might know him from Breaking Bad or Malcom in the Middle)". With this power he's destine to return the fallen he deems worthy, back to heaven. However someone frees "Azazel(Played by Hal Ozsan)", who was Lucifer's right hand in his uprising, from his eternal prison to help Aaron complete his quest, and come in contact with the Lightbringer.

2) 8 Mile - An un-offical biography of Eminem's early life on his 8 mile uprising. Bought all i can say.

There are others but it's 6 AM and I haven't slept so I'm not thinking straight. I might post more later.

Another good one: Moon. Sam Rockwell, Kevin Spacey. In the future this guy is stuck on the moon for 3 years as part of a mining contract, until there's an accident...

Great movie, great music, directed by Zowie Bowie. (He hates that name, but screw it, lol)
