This is what I'm working on while pixelmovement is being tested and developed to work with the built in movement system. It uses the sidescroller library and has mouse targeting much like Tanx. Unlike Tanx though, it's a 2d platformer much along the lines of a metroidvania style game. Progress will be based on upgrades and items with changes to go back for more items. It'll be a single player game with the option of a multiplayer "roam" mode which will essentially be a multiplayer version of the single player game with tougher enemies and yes, bosses. =)

Well, I need a weapon, and a potato launcher was the only thing that seemed original enough. I can make the potatoes in grayscale like the rest of the world though =)

Judging from the current feel of the game, is this really true? I'd really love to see you take this in a more Limbo-esque direction.

Remember, I wanted an original weapon, not something played out.

It's a nuclear powered infinite potato launcher. Eventually the potatoes will detonate on impact.

I want that too, however I want people to be able to play cooperatively and you can't really do that with an "escape survival" game like Limbo. I do want to make it scary though, the darkened areas will be much more expansive and filled with difficult, hopefully frightening, enemies. The lighter areas will be for platforming, shops, puzzles and more. I want to get a half horror, half puzzle game. The weapon is not just a tool for fighting enemies, but instead it's more used to hitting out of reach switches and clearing obstacles. In fact, there's a good chance the launcher won't even damage enemies, but only stun them so that you may escape. Some enemies will be killable, of course, but the vast majority will be the kind you say "oh crap" when you encounter them.
Being the chibi-horror fanatic that I am, I absolutely love the art direction of the game!

Contrary to comments below, I like the potato launcher and the way they bounce doesn't look that bad.

Thanks, I kind of adopted the shape of the main character off of your game, I liked the rounded rectangles. Thankfully though, only the main character will sport this shape so I'm not ripping it off. =P

As for the launcher, I'm going to make the potatoes grayscale in color as well in order to keep with the general feel. Either that or I will just wash out the color so that it looks more like a lifeless world rather than a colorless one.

I should have an updated version of the sidescroller library ready today, but it looks like the current version of the library is working just fine for you =)

I second the Yut Put 1-inch penis gun suggestion. It should function like a mini-gun - as you shoot, the penis gun starts erecting and consequently shoots urine bullets at a faster rate.
It reminded me of the game Limbo.
