I am trying to link to my friends serial port so I could upload the vector data, but I cant seem to find the connection. I was wondering if maybe he is not compatible. I really need to upload this vector data. Could somebody please help?
Well..try this,

<font size = 55>GO ON A COMPUTER FORUM!

NOT ON A PROGRAMMING FORUM!
</font size = 55>

Siientx...That really wasn't necessary to do the font that large.

Please refrain from using text that huge in the future. If you wish to make a point, then bold and largen the text a little, DO NOT, and I mean DO NOT use text size at 55 again.

No I am not a 'rent-a-mod'. I am a fellow BYONDer and I think that over-using HTML is very lame, not to mention, it is not needed. It's been stated before that the over-use of HTML is bad and abusing it means that our HTML privilege will be taken away.

So for your information, I suggest you take this into consideration and stop over-using it to get a point out! Otherwise, you will either get everyones HTML privilege taken away or, you will have a word from one of the other fellow BYONDer's, a Moderator or even from Dan or Tom. So, take what I said and before you do, don't turn this thread into a fight.

Relax, ShadowSiientx. Mellifluous was right; he was just politely pointing out that using text that big is not helpful to the forums, and a moderator might well have told you the same. He's only trying to help keep the forums clean just like everyone did before there were moderators to do it on an official basis.

Don't worry about it, you didn't really do anything to tick me off or annoy me ^_^

I've learned to keep my temper down alittle more which is good :)

As long as we all bring the peace to the forums the better, that way the community will be more plesant and enjoyable for the newcomers.

And for everyone else, for that matter. :)

Usually linking up to a friends serial port requires a serial cable to directly connect your two machines together, then use something like LapLink software (or a free alternative) to transfer files between computers. You could also use the parallel-port that hardly anyone uses anymore (except maybe robot hobbyists and dongle users). With the right software, Parallel-port transfers can be more convenient.

If you are both connected to the internet, you have several easier possiblities:

1) email the data to your friend;
2) start up a IM session (ICQ is good for this) and use the file transfer ability in your IM program (Trillian is great for this - I use it often);
3) download the BadBlue Personal edition server to create an instant Peer2Peer file sharing system. All you do is setup a secure shared folder, and your friend can grab the files directly from your computer... (I think Win2000 and WinXP have something like this already built in)
