That is the coolest 2D game I have ever played. You can even play it online against other people. It's for every platform I beleive. Came with my SuSE Linux and I have it on Windows. I beleive it has it for Mac too.

Yeah Wesnoth is pretty cool. I tried some single player but never really got into it. Maybe a BYOND game could be set up?

Only if you used GPL resources when creating the fan game.

I don't see why you'd bother though. Why not contribute to the actual game instead?

Or just make your own strategy game that liberally borrows from all the Tokienesque fantasy that has come before. Much like Warcraft, Siege, etc.
