Anyone skilled at chess? in Off Topic

Is anyone on BYOND skilled at chess? If so, do you play online ever, and are there any resources you would direct me to to learning chess? I've found an abundant amount of sources via Google, but I've always been a fan of hearing input from members of a community I'm a part of.

I've been meaning to get into chess for quite some time, but with a lack of any kind of chess club, it's hard to find people to play.

i try and play the devours witchs chess on here when i can, but sadly nones every on lol, match me sometime on there? normal rules P=

To play chess, you first need a chess board and chess pieces. Checkers boards do not work, and can damage your pieces if used incorrectly.

In order to begin a game of chess, both players shake hands. Then players take take turns flicking their pieces with their index fingers across the board until they knock the opponent's king over. Every time a piece is knocked down, the loser takes a shot. The first person to take out a king wins the game. At the start of the game, you may arrange the pieces however you like on the board.

Chess is pretty easy to learn to play. I think a lot of people learn using an overview of the rules, but learn to PLAY (as in, skillfully) through experience. I believe the wiki has a good article on it.

In either case, I actually have a game you might like more than chess (if you wish to pursue games of thought). It's called "Go" and I can reference you to a nice place to learn to play it and play with people all day (or whenever you want to play). The reason I go off on this tangent is because I keep looking for people on BYOND to play go with :ninja:

I used to be alright. I only ever played online for about a week, but that was about 6-7 years ago :\

If you have no-one to play with just try online. chess.com gives a tutorial i'm pretty sure.

Chess is a fun game once you learn... Of course considering that I haven't played in a while, you'd probably beat me. xD

Hmm, I used to be a decent hand at chess. Not a master or anything but I could usually hold my own. If you've found a place to play and want to play sometime shoot me a page or email.
