I finally found a good computer within my price range but the only problem is that it is a proffesional edition meaning it comes with Windows NT, would Windows NT be good for home use and mostly game playing. It doesn't have any special graphics or sound cards either. It's $259 for 933Mhz and 45GB. Is it a good deal?
How much RAM does it have? What kind of video card does it have? How much MB is to the video card? What kind of sound card? And MB to that? You have to be specific. And 98 is best for game playing.

Buy it, and if possible replace Windows NT with Windows 98. You just uninstall Windows NT and install 98.

Ya, that's what I'll probably do.
I wouldn't buy that computer. When I want to buy something I make sure it will last long and that is the best on the market. I would suggest you save your money up for atleast:
-60gb hardrive
-256 RAM or higher
-Pentium 4 processor
-Windows XP (pro is a bit better)
-any other customizations (a good graphics/sound card)

I think if you save up you should be able to get something good.

This is for my birthday and I'm not going to be getting a whole lot more money anytime soon, a computer like that is about $800 and it would take me six months to save that up, I think I'm going to get that one.

Wish I could pick something up for that price. That's pretty cool. I paid $1200 for a Compaq Presario with the following:

320 MB of Ram
850 Mhz
20 gb HD
AMD Duron Processor

ect.. But it was new.

Do you mean 850 mhz? 85mhz is pretty slow there Rae.

Ek! Yeah.. My mistake =P Edited.

Windows NT sucks for game playing. =P

Uninstall it and replace it with Windows 98 (preferably 98SE), and that's a pretty good deal you've got yourself. =)

Although you might want to get yourself a decent budget video card if you plan on playing any 3D games - I hear the GeForce3 range is relatively cheap these days.

$280 sounds like a good deal - and yes, I would either rip out NT and put 98se or XPpro on it, *or* you can partition the harddisk to have both NT and 98se on it, if you wanted to play around with NT stuff (learning about servers, administration, etc.).

for $350 I got an AMD 1.3Ghz, 128MB RAM, 20GB HD, CDROM, onboard graphics (comparable to GeForce2), onboard LAN, Modem, Sound - works really well under WindowsXPpro and SUSE Linux.
