Ok, I have the game set to go full screen. No problems there; but when I try to add a HUD this happens:

Are you sure the screen_loc is within the map view?
An easy way to position screen objects is with the NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST, and CENTER keywords. You can also offset them by doing +/- a value. See the reference for an example.
