I think my shell server is having trouble talking to the BYOND hub. I can connect to worlds with client/authenticate set to 0, but other worlds fail to connect (it just sits there trying to connect for a while or drops it and shows security certificate failed in the world log). I can ping hub.byond.com from the server. I've also tried the last 5 or so versions of BYOND (468 is currently installed).

The server was an Ubuntu 9.10 install, and this behavior just seemed to occur out of the blue about a month ago. I wiped it and did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 yesterday but the problem persists. It's a VPS from Linode.

Any ideas on what the source of the problem is? Or would somebody mind assisting me in troubleshooting it?

Basically so an object can have multiple locations on the client's screen without using the "box" format. Perhaps a syntax like this would work:

screen_loc = "x:x-pixeloffset,y:y-pixeloffset and x:x-pixeloffset,y:y-pixeloffset and ..."

And so on. This could also be combined with boxes. So an example would be:

screen_loc = "4:16,7 and 6:12,3:12 and 10,10 to 12,12"

This could seriously help in decreasing the number of HUD objects needed in some places.

Driving in Florida

1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real Florida driver never uses them. If you see a turn signal, it only means the bulb is good.

2. Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, or the space will be filled in by somebody else putting you in an even more dangerous situation.

3. Crossing two or more lanes in a single lane-change is considered going with the flow.

4. The faster you drive through a red light, the smaller the chance you have of getting hit.

5. Never, ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will inevitably result in you being rear ended. If you want your insurance company to pay for a new rear bumper, come to a complete stop at all stop signs.

6. A right lane construction closure is just a game to see how many people can cut in line by passing you on the right as you sit in the left lane waiting for the same jerks to squeeze their way back in before hitting the orange construction barrels.

7. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork. Florida is a no-fault insurance state and the other guy doesn't have anything to lose.

8. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs.

9. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to scare people entering the highway.

10. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as suggestions and are apparently not enforceable in Florida during rush hour.

11. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that a driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.

12. Please remember that there is no such thing as a shortcut during rush-hour traffic in Florida

13. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire.

14. Learn to swerve abruptly. Florida is the home of high-speed slalom driving thanks to the State Highway Department, which puts potholes in locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes.

15. It is traditional in Florida to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes.

16. Never take a green light at face value. Always look right and left before proceeding.

17. Remember that the goal of every Florida driver is to get there first, by whatever means necessary.

18. Real Florida women drivers can put on pantyhose and apply eye makeup at seventy-five miles per hour or in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

19. Real Florida men drivers can remove their girlfriend's panties and bra at seventy-five miles per hour or in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

20. In the Florida area 'flipping someone the bird' is considered a polite New Jersey salute. This gesture should always be returned.

(Sad thing is, a good amount of this is true.)

I was somewhat annoyed to find that changing client.dir flips around everything on client.screen. Since client.screen is meant to be used for graphical user interface stuff, and that's exactly what I'm using it for, I think it'd be better if client.screen didn't pay attention to client.dir.

Can it be changed to work like this?

I'm having trouble with my latest demo, the "First-Person View" Demo. Whenever I go past the coordinates of (11, 12, 1) on my map, the screen goes black. Everything within that (from (1, 1, 1)) seems to work just fine. It starts working again as soon as I go back under (11, 12, 1). I can't see anything in my code that could possibly make this happen, so I'm starting to think it's a BYOND bug. Well, you can download it from here: http://www.geocities.com/cinnomx/FPV.zip. You might need to copy & paste that link for it to work.
In my recent search for a new server to put my games on, a few questions have popped up regarding what I need. The ones I can remember are as follows:

1. Does the server have to be "dedicated" counter to a "shared hosting" (the only two types I've come across)? Does that matter?
2. Can I host my games on pretty much any system that has shell access?
3. Basically, what all do I need in a server to host my games?

Thanks.

Over the past few days of testing my new game, Mini-Bot Arena, a few people have said that the game isn't really entertaining. I'd have to agree with them.

The game is somewhat fun, and it helps that it's a side-scroller, but it just doesn't have any real entertainment in it. Of course it's always enjoyable to blow up your opponents and brag about it, but that's the only thing that keeps a player going. I add a new weapon every few days to keep things going for it. Perhaps a whole new game theme would help?

Anyways, I'm open to (or pleading for =) suggestions on things I could add to make it just plain more fun. Constructive criticism is obviously welcome.

If you haven't played it, you can connect to it any time at byond://Cinnom.Mini-BotArena. Playing it should give you an idea of what I mean.

I was told by two people that you were in DBEO spamming with World Talk, attempting to crash the world (with that intent being obvious, saying things such as "Let's crash this bitch"). I don't know if it was in fact you, but one of the people that told me is a good friend that I happen to trust, and he told me that your key was in the world at the time. I don't know why you would do this (out of jealousy, hate to DBZ, or immaturity alone), but I'd appreciate it if you didn't do that (if it was you).

If I use this as a macro, tapping the macro button, it works fine. Yet if I hold down the macro button, the sleep magically disappears (The test message still displays, scrolling down the screen).
