A very sad story I just heard
On the way home from college there was this person on the Radio telling a story of an American Hero. I don't know what to say after hearing it, mind you this will be the story in a very brief manner, seeing as how I can't recall it word for word.
A (I think) US.Navy soldier who fought in Iraq got injured(not sure what it was but it was pretty bad.)He just got out of surgery. He was given a dog, which he named: D.A.S.Y, said just like Daisy.

each letter stood for a fallen comrade in his team when he was at war. Recently, he was sleeping during the day (I tuned in half way, I think he had sleeping problems) Anyway, on this day around 1PM he was awake and heard a gunshot, he lives in TX and lives with his mom I think. So he grabbed his gun and went outside only to see 4 18-21 year old bastards standing around his dog, Dasy, who was shot dead. Him being a soldier of war pulled out a gun and put the gun between one of the guy's eyes. Repeating, "You killed my dog!" The four people ran into their car, he got into his truck and chased them down.
Four counties in, he managed to hit them into a ditch and trapped them I suppose and called the rangers. While the rangers were arresting them and taking them back into their car, they were yelling threats, "You're next. When we get out, you're next. First it was your dog, now it'll be you. You don't know who you're messing with"
So the soldier replies to the Ranger, "Ranger, do you know who I am?" and he said, "Yes, Lt" (or whatever rank he was, and followed by his name) The soldier replied, "You might want to tell these fools about me then. Because if I wanted,(with them there) I could have killed you 600 different ways. I could have dragged you back into my basement and tortured you. So before you tell me who you are, think about who's dog you just killed." Later turns out these four have been going around his county killing dogs for the past month for FUN. I say send them to war, let them have "fun".
Man, seriously what the hell? Anyway, he's going to be on FOX tonight at 5PM EST I believe. Once I get a website or something I'll post it, they're trying to get PETA and everyone involved, and I agree. Bastards like that sometimes make me wish the death system was still in play. And I don't mean waiting in a jail cell using tax money. I mean walking out and placing your own head on the Guillotine.
That may be harsh, but honestly, people like that are NEVER gonna contribute anything to society besides babies they probably won't want to pay for, and violence/no good. And I say this having a brother who since 15 has been in and out of jail, never owned a house because he's never been out of jail long enough to buy one. He's a waste of tax money and space.

Because I'll telekinetically take the gun out of their hands from a couple feet away. If they were close up, you would have some options, but not from far away, like the story makes it sound like.
EDIT: Nevermind, I must have read the story too fast. Apparently they didn't threaten him until they were trapped, and even then, they didn't point a gun at him with the intent to kill him, disregard that comment.

Yeah, I wtf'd at that. The first story like most of you said was made up (not really, but added to it). He also never put the gun between the guy's eyes nor did he pin them THEN call rangers. Even so, he could've started shooting at the car anytime not caring who he would've hurt. Which I think I probably would've done seeing them all laugh. The guy has been through a lot, and it seems he's a decent dude. Unlike most people suiciding and killing their families these days for being poor.

Eh, I have to step in on the account that I have a friend with PTSD. Often times, anyone who watches their best friends, whether these are people that have been trained and taught to die for or not...well, die, it sends a person over the edge. Also, War is hell, and all you need to do is ask a veteran that is willing to talk about it to find out.
In my friend's case, I'm fairly certain it wasn't improper upbringing or anything of that nature. He spent two tours in Afghanistan with a 6 month break between those, then 2 months after his second tour he had a 12 month tour to Iraq. While he was on that 3rd tour, a mutual friend of ours was killed by an IED with about a month left in our tour. Now, while he was over there, his unit was attacked, and his unit had 2 soldiers killed and he was wounded with shrapnel*. Fast forward through the remainder of his tour. He gets home, to find out our friend had been killed near the end of his tour. About 3 months later, he was discharged and diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and is now on some government disability plan for the rest of his life due to his shoulder being wrecked and him having some serious issues upstairs.
I know that there's some cases where a nut winds up in the military and goes off, however these cases aren't as prevalent as some might think. And as far as people with PTSD goes, the government is usually more responsible for placing straws than any issues at home. And nearly always the last straw to send a person over the edge.
*- he received a purple heart for his service.

Which is why I added the caveat that it would have to occur in the heat of the moment before I could think with full rationality... Once I had my wits about me, and the immediate haze of rage lost control, I'd recall the legal ramifications, and handle the situation as sound and reasonable as I could (using perhaps a bit too much force to apprehend and subdue the thug in question, perhaps, but nothing that could get me into too much hot water)
But again, catch me right at the moment things happened, and if I react before I can clearly think about it, and I'd be looking at manslaughter...
I'm honestly not one to lose my cool very easily (in fact, I don't think I've ever really thrown a true punch at anyone) I have a very long fuse, and very few triggers... But I believe this sort of situation might be one of the short list of things that would make me snap... Of course, my reaction to this sort of occurance would be nothing close to my reaction should I ever catch anyone hurting/killing a human loved one... They'd be wiping that scum up with a mop...

I can agree with this... The soldiers with true problems likely had those problems before enlisting...
But the fact remains that there's a certain mentality that's required of and sometimes drilled into those in the military... This mentality is a necessary one, for the job they must do, but it's one that definitely teeters on a fine edge...
An attack/guard dog (even a police K-9 unit) is often a very highly trained and disciplined animal, with natural killer instincts enhanced by breeding and training, but then also kept unnaturally in check by other aspects of that training...
They're always just one straw away from snapping...

It's possible that it wasn't used again during this whole endeavour (if it actually happened, sounds seriously "made up inspirational story" as opposed to actual events to me) because people are pretty savvy about the law nowadays. Killing an animal usually nets you a pair of years in the clink, while assault with a deadly weapon and attempted homicide can land you in there for up to thirty-five years (hell, you're looking at life if you kill a person).

Then you're looking at trouble with the law right alongside the idiots who killed your dog. That may be so, but the recent trend of mental instability is not the military's fault; basic is simply the straw that breaks the camel's back. The source of most of the aforementioned issues is a result of their upbringing and whatnot. I have a ten year old nephew with homicidal tendencies (who has already been caught and reprimanded by the school for stabbing and choking two girls his age, while receiving no reprimand at home) and the entire source of that is his fire and brimstone Catholic great grandparents who have guardianship and raised him (that's an entirely different can of worms though, and is for a different place and a time). After playing games like Halo (where he loves killing anybody on his own team that's talking), Brothers in Arms, Call of Duty and the countless other "military conflict" games that his great grandparents bought for him, he thinks the military is awesome and wants to join as a sniper -- he's the kind of walking disaster that keeps joining the armed forces to protect our country these days.

My bad, I didn't read it in detail, because I only had to read it one time to know it's fake.

Your point being...? I didn't say he was right or wrong, just that he was basing his opinion off of misunderstood information. I probably should have just left that bit out. I was mainly interested in giving the link.

1. I don't believe 4 guys would run from 1 guy, especially if one/all of them had guns.
2. Chase across 4 counties? Yeah right.
3. If they were caught, they would know the ages.
4. That guy would've shot first and asked questions later, and wouldn't have ran into his lieutenant 4 counties away.
Theres way more flaws in it, but yeah...I'ma go out on a limb and say it's fake, and I'm probably right.
