So... DarkView reminded me that I hadn't posted about this here yet. Oops. My bad!

Here's the deal. Unless you've been living under a rock (and hey, that's kind of fun sometimes, so if you have been then that's totally cool with me) you've probably heard of the bushfires that have been ravaging the Australian state of Victoria. The official death toll is 181, but that's expected to rise to between 200 and 300 once authorities manage to locate and identify more of the bodies. (Apparently people don't get added to the toll until they've been positively identified.) 1,800 homes have been destroyed making around 7,000 people homeless. Hundreds of people were injured; and remember "injuries" includes victims of severe burns.

It isn't over yet, either; today marks a week since the fires started, and some are still burning.

That's why I'm pledging 50% of the proceeds from the sale of my indie game, Mayhem Intergalactic, towards the Australian Red Cross's bushfire appeal fund. Details on my Inventive Dingo news blog.

DarkView rightly points out that this is incongruous given the subject matter of the game (ruling the galaxy with an iron fist); but hey, even bloodthirsty galactic overlords need a change of pace sometimes.
*shakes your hand*
Victoria thanks you.
That's absolutely fantastic. Although it is a simple gesture, if everyone was willing to be so generous, money wouldn't be an issue for helping those displaced or injured by the fire.
Just doing my bit!

Sounds like the fires are starting to pick up again... :-(

Heh, tell me about it.

Msg from Vic Police: Extreme weather in Vic expected Mon night & Tues. Hight wind & fire risk. Listen to local ABC Radio for emergency updates. Do not reply to this.

Recieved that message on my phone (as did both of my brothers and my father) earlier today.

Yeah, got that one about an hour before I left work.
That text message did lie however. It said heavy winds... There are no winds, at least not here.
I saw predictions of 120+ km/h winds on ABC TV news tonight. O_O

I'm sure they'd be happy to be proven wrong.

(Here they're saying 150 km/h winds. Eep.)

I quite enjoy standing outside in heavy winds. Call it a quirk, but I like being knocked off my feet by natural forces. It's fun. =)
It does actually sound kind of fun. I've always wanted to have the experience of leaning over and being supported by the wind.

That's if you ignore petty little things like the damage it will do to property and the fires it'll be spreading... but hey, no worries, right???

Likewise. I'm looking forward to the opportunity.

Yeah, she'll be right. =)
Hey, Crispy! I haven't bothered you in quite a while... I have some catching up to do XD

That really sucks. Kind of reminds me of those fires going on in California a couple years back. Luckily, there haven't been many fires up here in Oregon. I think that's a good thing about being in a more humid state of a not-dry country. My best wishes to any fire victims.
