Hey guys. I've finished tweaking the climate settings and have added Forests, Rainforests, and various resources (which you can see scattered around the map) such as Uranium and Oil and everybody's favorite, Cows.

I decided that since I was simulating elevation with my 3D Cell Automata, I might as well take a crack at different Climates in the map generator as well. It would be interesting to see Desert Nations go up against Arctic Nations in the game, as different technologies will appeal to each of the groups.

I've attached a screenshot to show where I'm at with the map generator. There's snow and there are rocky areas (Mountains)

Temperature is currently dependent upon latitude and elevation. I'll be adding humidity sometime soon, which will be dependent upon elevation and simulated moisture.

Well, a lot of people seemed to want it, and I miss playing the game myself.

GFW is going to be pushed off to the side until the Summer Vacation comes along (which is in a week), and in its place is going to be a remake of Conquest.

I'm reworking the map generator right now. It's going to be based upon a 3D Cellular Automata (Which means that either each cell can have more than 2 states, or there really are 3 dimensions in the field)

http://www.byond.com/members/D4RK354B3R/files/ Conquest%203d%20cell%20automata.png
A lot of people have been hammering me to change the name of Reach for the Stars. After a few days of hard work (yep) I've decided to rename it Conquest.

Conquest is coming along excellently: ICBMs and other projects have been implemented, the Combat System already redone, New Resources, Game Saving and Loading works perfectly, and Simultaneous Turns are working perfectly (Games are so much faster now!).

To Do List for Conquest:
- Diplomacy
- Government/Society influences

A screenshot

Expect a release soon. :D

Well, I had the first real closed testing session today with Yota and Gooseheaded. For those of you who don't know what Reach for the Stars is, it's a game that is heavily influenced by the Civilization series of games and by Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.
Much of the gameplay will be similar to Risk and Civilization (Civilization style empire building and Risk style territories), but I still need to work on a lot of the gameplay mechanics (especially combat)

Here are some screenshots:

http://files.byondhome.com/D4RK354B3R/RftS%20BYOND%204.PNG

This screenshot was posted in a comment on the BYOND Strategy Guild News yesterday. It's kind of outdated, because I got a lot of work done today.

http://files.byondhome.com/D4RK354B3R/ RftS%20BYOND%204%20fow.PNG

This is a screenshot that I took today during the closed testing with Yota. I managed to get a lot of bugs fixed during today's session.

I still have quite a few things to implement, like region-improvements (Yay Habitation Domes), projects, diplomacy (mostly resource and unit trading), and the technology tree (I've got this planned out)

Expect posts in the future with questions for help about this. I'm kind of lost in the direction I should take with some of the gameplay mechanics right now.

So... since a project that I've been thinking about required an isometric library and supported height, I figured I would make my own (Jp's wasn't satisfactory, no offense >_<, and TMDI's Iso8 used Map Z layers for Height, which disallowed instancing maps). After about two hours of work, I've gotten it working near flawlessly. The main problem is the fact that players who aren't on the host machine get graphical glitches, but I think that this is because of how BYOND manages client.screen.

Here's a screenshot of the demo (just for the heck of it)

Click Here for the Hub Entry!

I also think that this is the only library on BYOND that has support for 64x64 axonometric cubes.

If you have any problems or comments, just reply to this post or go to the D4RK3 54B3R forums. Thanks for checking this out.
