Details about EoC & an annoucement

The game will take place in a furturistic theme with 3 races: Humans, Orions, and Furnas. Each race will have different strengths and weaknesses.

As each unit will have different ranges (I am thinking about the oview proc, but is that a good idea?). Ranges can be effected by the areas they are in such as trees (infantry, small and medium artillery (only Furnas has large artillery)), mountains (infantry and small artillery only), and rivers (only infantry can go in the river). Trees give you limited range, but if you are near open land, you have the same range as before, but more cover. Mountains will give a longer range. Rivers, will "cloak" infantry which is perfect for Fog of War matches where you can do a surprise attack with your infantry on vehicles or mow down some infantry.

About the buildings, it looks like defined areas (keeps everything spaced, but might be a challenge for my level designer, for he will have to make the right enough of build areas for one of each building and each race has a different amount of buildings)is winning, but I'll wait a little longer to see if anything changes. If it is defined, there will be an icon with "BUILD" on it to show a location to build, but a construction unit must be on there for a certain amount of turns (each building will have a build time (which one is equal to 1 turn (this means your turns, not your opponents and yours) as will units).

If you can build anywhere (I'd like to build anywhere, but then everything is cramped), then just place a construction unit on an open area (no buildings, units, or cover (trees, mountains, or rivers). As the construction will have the same rules as before.

Constructions units (aka Workers or Mechanics (Humans), Kyia (Orions), Sylons (Furnas)) create buildings and mine. There are three resources in this game obtained by workers. One is the Crystallies, your main money. Another one is Querons, a gas-like substance that is pretty well needed later in the tech tree. The last one is the hardest to obtained. It is electricity, it is obtained by power plants. This is way deep in the tech tree, but the Orion race does not require electricity for its whole teach tree.

Well, next week I'll post some more about the game. I decided to do a weekly news thing about my game, but if I run out of stuff to say I'll stop it. See ya next week!

Build anwhere or defined places?

Poll: Should EoC have places to build or you can build anywhere?

Defined Places 60% (3)
Anywhere 40% (2)

The polls are now closed.

In EoC, to build higher ranked units you must build good tech buildings (duh), but I was wondering if it would be better to allow the player to build anywhere or on defined places (like a build sector). What do you think?

WoS Dropped, New Game Idea

I dropped "War of Syzran", but I'm quite sure I'm back to it later.

I started a new turn-based strategy game name "Era of Command." I made it first as an RTS, but I changed it to a TBS. Right now I finished the lobby system and I will work on the design doc and the moving system.

WoS News

Poll: Selecting System

Box Selection 100% (5)
Single Selection 0% (0)

I haven't been working on it for a while, but I got back on the project and I'm still on the movement and selecting system (trying to make a box selection which so far I don't like making, but it is pretty good).
I want the game to be up to the community, so do I want to a box (drag around the area to select units) or single select (click on each unit and then move)?
