After digging around in some old files from a flash drive I had laying around I came across a version of my partially worked on "Black Hat" hacker game. It gave me some motivation to start programming and working with graphics again, and I was thinking about picking up where I left off.

Though my free time is pretty limited these days, I could still work on the project that I had a lot of enthusiasm for. The only thing currently putting me off is the fact that it still requires an immense amount of sleepless night to even become partially playable. The thought of doing all that work and then it generating no interest is giving me second thoughts.

At the same time, I also have a bunch of slightly unorganized notes on some projects that never got past the pen and paper stage. Seeing as I have not yet actually made my 'Net Dream', it's looking more and more appealing...

So yeah, lets start off by saying I still regularly lurk around Byond, though I have not found much appeal to post anything relatively constructive. Secondly, no, I will not make you a new style-sheet.

Well, I recently started work again, albeit is supposed to be a temporary position. It's nothing really fancy, factory work and machinery operations. The highlight of my working day though is driving around a nifty little forklift...

Job = Money = Food = Life, can't really complain with that logic...

I also realised that an in immense <s>94</s> 95 people have downloaded my demo since it's release, I feel so warm and fuzzy thanks to you guys <3

I made this for a friend quite some time ago, and figured I had lost it when my computer died. Luckily enough, I had emailed it to him and I was able to recover it. Have a look, and see what you think.
Well I have decided to try and Get Something Done this month. And after reading Iain Peregrine's post on Starting a Project, I realised that I really should organise all those random ideas in my head into something more.

While I will not get a game to any sort of playable stage this month, I am hoping to get 'something' done. And what better to do that than start organising my ideas for an RPG (Been meaning to do one for quite some time). I don't currently have any games that people can play, which I'm pretty disappointed in for the length of time I have been here. Although I am not short on half finished projects and random demo's I've made for friends.

-------------------------------------------------

That said, here is a rough to do list:

1) Plot, Setting and Theme.

I would like to come up with a well thought out storyline for my game. Something in-depth in which you learn more as you progress through the game. Along with this will come my little world and all it's continents, as well as a time period.

2) Characters and Classes.

At this point, I would be deciding what different classes (if any) you can choose from and what specific skill sets they will have. Any NPC's that would be influential to the story would be thought up here too.

3) Equipment.

I will have to decide on what different types of equipment the game would contain. Specific details such as strengths and weaknesses of equipment, as well as wielding requirements, will have to be mapped out and matched to the Classes.

4) Professions.

These will most likely be your classic Tailoring, Enchanting etc. Although it would be nice to get something new, something that intertwines with the plot.

5) Enemies.

At this point, I will be ready to start coming up with some enemy NPC's, along with their attributes and locations in the world.

6) Combat System.

Now that I have some puppets to pit against each other, I can start working on how the combat will work. Sorting out PvP will also take place at this stage.

7) Guilds and Alliances.

I wouldn't make these the usual "Create Guild >> Invite >> Friendship!" type of guilds like you see a lot on Byond. I'll have my own purposes for guilds beyond the traditional "extra help".

8) Interface.

By this stage, I probably won't have my computer fixed, so I'll be making a hack job of my interface..Well, not really. This is where I decide what gets displayed on the main window, what pops up and all the rest.

-------------------------------------------------

Well there you go, that's the gameplan. I'm not expecting to get all this done by the end of May as I already mentioned, but it would make for very nice progress. If I make it to stage 6, then I'm doing better than usual.

Don't forget to read over Iain Peregrine's post, it should prove to be some very insightful information.

Huzzah! Well this was rather unexpected to be honest, me thinks Teka is the one to thank for this. It's nice to know that I kept my CSS, I really should keep the files and code to these on an external drive.

Now if only something interesting were to happen, I could blog about it. Like that time I woke up tied to a bed in a hotel room, about 150 miles from my house...

Well, this somewhat sucks. My membership is expiring and my computer is fried. So I'm currently using the family computer, and it isn't very pleasant.

So for the past two weeks I havn't managed to get much programming done and havn't been able to do anything with photoshop. I've lost a good deal of files, however managed to backup quite a few. So it will be a while before I get back on track, hopefully sooner than later. However that is being optimistic, it will likely be a few months before I get my membership renewed and a few more before I either get my computer sorted or get a new one.

I had previously said that I would make the CSS for the Dbz guild, well this is why I havn't been able to and why I havn't really been in contact.

Until next time...

Well my 1 year is almost up, then I get to say toodles to my membership. I've never been much of a blogger, and could have probably gotten my money's worth out of this blog had anything relatively interesting happened to me this past year.

As for the job-hunt, still no luck. Apparently people would prefer someone with previous customer services experience, which is rather hard to obtain when nobody will hire you because you don't already have it.

Thus, my game plan is simple:

mob/proc/GetJob(wage,hours,rating)
    if(rating<3)
        Purchase("Antidepressants")
    if(wage*hours<100)
        Purchase("Byond Membership")
    else
        Purchase("Byond Membership")
        Purchase("Booze")

Well I thought I'd try something different, although chances are I will revert to my old one. The bases of the CSS were created by Foomer, as I had some trouble with the top image and was hopeless with the forums (Which still need some work). So I'm rather grateful.
I was just curious to see what common #define directives people used in their projects that could apply to others. These will obviously be calculations for the most part. Here are a few I often use -

#define SQR(X) ((X)*(X))                  //Classic Square

#define Percent(X,Y) ((X/100)*(Y))           //Find the percentage: X is the inital value - Y is the percentage

#define BoostPercent(X,Y) (X+(X/100)*(Y))    //Boost a value by a percentage: Same structure as above

#define floor(x) round(x) //Rounds number down, toward zero, to the nearest multiple of significance.

#define ceil(x) (-round(-(x))) //Returns number rounded up, away from zero, to the nearest multiple of significance

#define OddOrEven(X) ((X & 1) != 0)              //Returns true if a value is Odd, false if it's Even (up to 1e+010)

#define InRange(X,Y,Z) (X <= Y && Y <= Z)      //Check if a value is in range: X is lowest parameter, Y is your value, Z is the highest parameter

Well, as some of you may or may not know, I work for Amazon.co.uk. Basically, I get to stand on my feet for 10 hours (I do get breaks...) packing the things that people buy off of their website.

So while I was in my usual trance, I couldn't help but look down and see a very familiar picture on the book in my hand. It was none other than This Little Rascal! That's right, the book is just full of the infamous Lolcat images.

While I thought this kid was an idiot for paying to see these images, it was the highlight of my day (Then again..someone did fall over..).

So I gave him an extra 20% off voucher.
