This friday I'll be having all my 32 teeth removed due to a genetic anomally called Amelogenesis Imperfecta that has left my gums extremely infected. It's nothing serious just jump in, get stuck with anesthetics WHAM!

wake up, and gum all my food until I get dentures, oh how FUN!

I'll let you all know how it goes, but it's either surgery or painful slow death.
Ouch. That's pretty nasty, to lose all your teeth at your age. Good luck with the surgery, and I hope the dentures aren't too much of a problem.

Reminds me of a story my Grandfather used to tell me:

While he was in the military, he was stationed in Alaska for a while. He and some others befriended one of the native eskimos in the area. Nice guy, but his teeth were covered in crap. They decided to take him to the company dentist and have his teeth cleaned. He gets them all cleaned up, and they actually look pretty good. The guy is all happy about it until two weeks later, when they start falling out. He winds up losing them all. Oops!

No idea if the story is true or not as my grandfather tended to be a bit prone to BS. :P

Sorry you're having to go through that. Sounds pretty damn rough. I had my wisdom teeth broken into pieces and pulled out, which sucked pretty bad, and that was only four teeth. I can't imagine having them all done.

Best of luck, and enjoy your Jello ;)

It was actually common for teeth cleanings to ruin your teeth until about twenty years ago. My dad had the same problem. He had perfect teeth until he joined the Marines, where he got his teeth cleaned twice a year, up until the early 1980's they'd scrape the enamel off of your teeth and call them clean. This would leave your teeth highly unprotected, and they'd usually rot out or get infected. Now they buff your teeth and use floride, so you don't lose enamel, if anything you leave with more than you had.

So I'm willing to bet your grandfather's story is at least a little true.
Ouch. Well, they make dentures better than they used to, and hopefully, after a little while of having them in, you'll forget that they're even there!

Good luck with your surgery, Dareb!
Holy cow! Sorry to hear about that. I hope everything goes well and wish you a speedy recovery!

Are they going to be removable dentures or embedded artificial teeth socketed to the jaw?
I had about eight baby teeth that were anclised (stuck to the jaw bone). I had to go under general anasthetic so they could drill them out. What fun!

So I feel about a fifth of your pain.

I want those teeth but they arent covered by basic healthcare here in Canada, so dentures will have to do until later

Well, thank goodness you live in Canada, where at least you have basic health care! Good luck!

Thanks, after suffering for over 6 years of chipping teeth and eventually getting to a point where I couldnt chew anything hard. Dentures will probably be a blessing for me. My teeth never were good to me.

Oh well, thanks for all your encouragement. 32 more hours

Even if I didn't get healthcare I would have been able to sue my dentist, I've pulled my dental records from my youth and I was diagnosed as a baby.. My baby teeth came in almost immediately and they all have no enamel, my dentist could have saved me alot of suffering by just giving me dentures when I was 18.
Karma just owned you.

tell me about it.
