I really need some help on this. When I select text, and hit backspace, it doesn't delete, it just goes to the begining of the selected area. Also, if I select text and then start typing, hoping to replace the selected text with whatever I type, it unselects the text and puts what I type at the start of the select. Does anyone know how to change this? It's only on MSWord, it works fine in this window and on other user accounts. Please help! I hate typing reports bad enough as it is, but this is just ridiculous =/

Here's an example in case I'm making no sense to you. (The bolded letter are highlighted and the "|" is the cursor)

It was sunday the 3rd and I went for a walk.
So I select "sunday the 3rd" and hit backspace
It was |sunday the 3rd and I went for a walk.
It didn't delete! Heres the other case:
I ate a slice of pizza and then walked away.
I then type sandwhich and this happens
I ate a sandwhichslice of pizza and then walked away.

Please help! I will be forever grateful ='(
Hmm, that sounds vi-like in behaviour. Strange.

My suggestion: stop using Microsoft Word to type your reports. I use Jarte PRO, but there's a free version that works just as well without a few bells and whistles (like skinnable windows). It's way better than Word for 90% of the tasks you'll ever do.

Wow, that looks like a great word processor, thanks for pointing it out :D

I've been looking for a free word processor for my laptop that doesn't take up half the HD =D

I am eternally* in your debt, Mr. Pirate Head :)

In my experience, OpenOffice.org (whos site is http://www.openoffice.org , if you couldn't guess) is the best Office Solutions to replace Microsoft office. Most people take to it with no problems, and, most importantly, it is free. Try it out, and just try to tell me why anyone would ever pay for Microsoft office.

Because they are one of the following:
  • Never heard of Open Office
  • Morons
  • Have too much money to spend
  • Microsoft fanboys
  • All of the above

It's the best office solution, perhaps, but I wouldn't suggest it for most word processing. Jarte is great because it isn't an office suite - it's focused on common word-processing tasks.

  • So what you're trying to say is that I'm a moron? Okay, fine; I hate you too! >;|

Yeah that's not very nice; I still prefer the Microsoft Office suit over others as well :(

But Abiword is dang fine! And fast as greased lightning, too! Cross platform... run it on anything from a 66mhz 486 to a 2.4 ghz Pentium 4

    XD

I wasn't satisfied with abiword. It's not very easy to use or fully-featured. Of course, it's been a year since I've tried it. I might give it another go at some point, if it's been updated.
