Last week my XBOX 360 broke. The surprising part is I'm not upset by it at all. I was playing Call of Duty and it froze. I restarted, it froze five minutes in. Then the next time it red ringed on me.
It was fairly late anyway, so I called up the guys I was playing with and explained why I dropped out, then watched some Mighty Boosh before going to bed. The next day I picked up a new one on the way home from work.
My original XBOX 360 isn't under warranty, but because it's a hardware failure Microsoft will do the repair for free. I booked it in and I'm sending it off tomorrow.

The thing is I know I shouldn't be so cool with it. I treat my consoles well enough that this shouldn't happen. It interrupted a really good game of Team Deathmatch and instead of getting angry I went out and brought another one (on the plus side I got Halo Wars and some other games free with the new XBOX).
I didn't even get mad when a database error forced me to call XBOX Support by phone rather than booking the repair online.

I'm actually sort of looking forward to getting my old XBOX back so I can start double bokkin'. I'll probably flush even more money down the toilet buying games I already own for system linking.
Sounds like you were cool with it because you've been meaning to get a second system for awhile anyway! If you're anything like me, a little "excuse" like this is all it takes to finalize a decision to splurge on a new purchase.

If that's not the case, then you're definitely taking it way better than I would. I'd be more pissed off at the hassle than anything else.
Haha yeah, I'm just waiting for my xbox to bork so I have an excuse to upgrade to an elite or something.

Edit: That's if it borks. It's basically a launch model, and it already over went the 3 year warranty for RROD. I think I may be one of the last people with a still fully-functioning launch xbox. Heh.
You could probably fix it yourself. What error code did you have? Also, look up your secondary error code. You need to google that on google to find it >.>.. Sorry I'm abit high

I was thinking of going with an Elite or a RE5 RED, but I actually prefer the white console (especially over red).

Ay caramba! The legend of Evergreen is true!

The only part that was a hassle was taking it on the train to get it home, and even then the hassle was that Connex* randomly canceled my train.

You could always donate the spare to the poor old Nadrew =P

I'm actually not even sure if the consoles from down undah would work in the states.

They would, but they're PAL consoles. You could get them to work in the states, and get on Xbox Live. You just wouldn't be able to play NTSC games.

Haha yeah. You know there's people that don't believe me about this? I'm rather curious just now many of the early xbox's died. Seems to be almost all of them.

I would be skeptical if some random chump on an XBOX board was claiming to have a functioning launch console, but there is literally no reason for you to even exaggerate in a post that's about someone who loves his XBOX so much he's completely blind to the fact that he's been screwed by shoddy hardware.

I'd like to see the numbers. It would actually make a cool documentary. Tracking down launch model owners and looking at how they treated their consoles, how much use they've got out of them, etc.
Interviews with the people who went through half a dozen consoles but still stuck with XBOX 360. I remember when the PS3 came out there was always someone with a launch console claiming the RRoD was an exaggeration, it would be interesting to see if their consoles eventually broke (and how they reacted).

If I choose to give it away (unlikely), and Dan or Mike don't want it (very unlikely), and I'm sending things to your area of the US anyway (it could happen!) then its all yours. =P
Give me membership so I could add pictures to my hub for Creed? Please!
Do you think you could trade in a 360 (and maybe a few games) for a Ps3? I have 2 now... I bought one right after I got RRoD'ed and got it repaired. Like you =].

I've had a PS3 for like a year now. I own Ratchet and Clank and MGS4. Thanks to the lack of backwards compatibility I've spent more time playing my PS2 than my PS3 since I brought the PS3.
The only time I've ever considered buying more games for it there have been XBOX 360 games above it on my priority list. =P

It's not that the exclusives are bad or anything, they just tend to get knocked back by the almost constant stream of new games for the 360.
:\ Makes me feel kinda bad. I can't afford 1 360.
not even a BYOND membership.
now THAT'S pretty sad.
